B) 1 year multiple entry have to go outside Thailand to get it, usally Malaysa from 12 to 25 thousand baht (depending on who is helping you) each entry gives you 60 days with a 30 day extension gives you 90 days total each entry, you then have to do a visa run. Extensions cost 1900 baht

wrassell's right.

If you're thinking of retiring here, I would apply for a multi-entry non-Immigrant O visa. This allows you to stay 90 days at a time (plus extensions). You can then apply to Immigration for a Retirement Visa, assuming you are eligible for this. One further point about the retirement visa is that if you want to leave the country at any time, you wil need a re-entry permit (costs 3,800 baht).

You can apply to convert a multi-entry non-Immigrant O visa at any time within the last month of your entitlement to stay in Thailand. I'm currently allowed to stay in the country until 21st November so I'll be applying for my retirement visa shortly after 21st October. :D

i'm only 40, and single...

can have a muliple entry non immigrant visa (o)? :clap2

Yes. That would be the simplest option. You can extend your visa each time by 30 (?) days :chogdee2 after which you will have to do a visa run. Apply for the visa as close to the date of your departure as possible. In the UK, you can apply in person

for an additional fee. The expiry date of the visa is, I think, 1 year after it was granted by the Thai consul in your home country or wherever.

I believe, though, that if you re-enter Thailand a few days before the visa is due to expire, you will be granted a further 90 days so in theory you could stay in Thailand foralmost 15 months.

As Soi 7 said, check out the Thai Visa site. They have the real professionals there. :clap1

Get a non immigrant "O" or "B" visa. You get 90 days which you can extend by another 30 for BT1900 at Soi 8 (moving to Jomtien - when ?).

So, if you go out every 90 days, you can get 16 months if you go just before your last expiry and then extend. Cost, GBP 90 plus 4 * cost to border plus 1 * Bt1900 per 16 months.

Oh, by the way, your tourist stamp is 30 days. The reason people get caught out is that they may land on 17th and think the month is 30 days. Then they realise the month has 31 days and they are not leaving until 01:00 the following morning. No-one gets 28 days. Ozzies now get 90 days.

I don't know if this matters much but the thirty days includes the day they stamp your passport. If you enter on say the first of a 30 day month then you stamp expires the 30th not the first of the following month. If you stamp in on say the 15th of a 31 day month you need to leave the 13th and this makes it seem like they are cheating you out of some days, but it is 30 days including the day they stamp you in....But to be sure I always go by the date the stamp indicates, my math isn't the same as Thai math.

I stand corrected in fact it not a visa they grant you at the airport...thanks

wrassell, i also was wrong. You are correct, it is indeed 30 days including the day of arrival. Your example shows why it can, on 1st glance, look like they've only granted 28 days.

I've checked all my stamps, & apart from one at a small cambodian border at 29 days, they are all 30 days.

:D
