Freight UK to Thailand

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Need a bit of help. I'll want to send some personal and household items tools etc. to LOS. i.e between half to one cubic metre. Has anyone done this, and which way is the best. I beleive air goes by weight, how much per kilo? and by sea it's volume, how much per cubic metre? Also can anyone recomend a good company.

I know prices vary so a approx. will do.

Thanking you Doug.

if someone has used a freight company from france to los which was professional yet reasonable in pricing i'd be grateful to know of it. i'd want to be assured their packing was professional - in particular in regard to my many books which would need to be protected not just from the damage of being thrown about but also from damp and humidity.

i picked up that eneukman had books sent - from england; and that idee fixe is a french los resident. there must be others too.

thanks a lot.

Have just been enquiring about this myself and contacted one company called 1st Move International who quoted £166 a cubic metre (min. 2 metres) but not sure if this is cheap or expensive so still looking around and waiting for some more quotes.

That prices seems to be quite good. One important point to bear in mind is to ensure that whichever company you choose gives you a door to door service. Otherwise, you may have to go to Bangkok and get the goods out of the Customs Warehouse yourself. Insurance will be extra and can add on quite a bit as that will be based on value.

I simply looked up Yellow Pages and invited 2 firms to come and give me a quote. The agents in Bangkok told me the day before that they would deliver my goods at 9.00 the following morning. They turned up at 8.50. Now if that had been the UK, it would have been some time between 8.00 and 1.00.

Cost is based on weight if shipping by air and by volume if shipping by sea.

Unless you have a work permit, you will have to pay some import duty on the goods. The rules used to allow holders of a retirement visa to have one shipment of goods duty free but the rules changed whilst my goods were in transit!!!! :nod The agents in Bangkok agreed the amount of duty with Customs in Bangok though I didn't receive a receipt for this.
