Hi guys

I am seeking advice on how to rectify an annoying problem that's been occuring now for a few days,I will say at the outset that my computer experience is VERY limited,in fact almost zero.

My problem is when I am reading etc messages on this site and see a URL in someones text that I am interested in I click it and read it.After finishing reading I click the icon in the top right of my screen (red with white "X") expecting (as has been normal for previous 2 years) to be returned to the site.

This is where my problem occurs. What in fact happens now is that the screen goes blank and then an announcement appears as follows.

Internet explorer has encounted a problem and needs to close, please tell microsoft of problem. At the bottom of this are 2 boxes either send report or don't send.I have on more than 1 occasion tried clicking each box but alas to no avail. The really annoying part in all this is the fact that after pressing either button my computer is wiped of all programs I am watching and I am forced to return to the start and re-boot all my programs of interest again.

Any help for this comp.dummy would be appreciated, and just one thing this problem I think started around the time I last updated the latest microsoft update.

Why use internet explorer it is crap. Try any of these.

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

http://www.opera.com/download/

They are much fast than IE and better in every other aspect.

:D :D :D

Thanks for excellent advice, have registered on OPERA already good service!

Just another newbie question if I want to can I also join "Mozilla" at the same time should I want to??

Sounds like you downloaded IE7 and it's crashing when you close the second window that opens when you click on a link. I think it was released a little prematurely. I downloaded it because I use IE, but only for those sites that Firefox won't work with. What I found was that Windows Move Maker no longer worked or worked only intermitently. After some resesarch I found out the problem was IE7. So I uninstalled it and Movie Maker was fine. Not only that but IE6 was still on my computer.

Download Firefox from the Mozilla link above. It's a much better and safer browser.

Just a side note here. If you use Firefox (and everybody should IMHO) but find that some pages don't work properly and need IE, you can download a FF extension that will open pages in an IE tab. BTW, pages that work in IE and not in FF are poorly written and do not comply with web standards - hope it's not your own website.

I've seen the extension but there are so few pages that require IE that I never bothered and they're getting fewer all the time. But that's a good tip for anyone that regularly visits a page that Firefox won't open properly.

You can have as many browsers on your computer as you want. You can use Opera, firefox and IE all at the same time if you wish, they all open separately. I use Opera myself and have no problems with it, I find it better than the others although Firefox is pretty good as well. :D

I'm another convertee to Firefox - though I still have Internet Explorer as I need for when I use AOL. When internet problems arose following the recent Taipei earthquake, AOL opened all the sites that I couldn't access through Firefox.

AOl are still a load of shite though. :party
