Condo (preferred) or hotel for monthly rental

Recommended Posts

I have read every related post on this board, and have some ideas but would like more. I will be relocating to Pattaya in late April as I am working out an arrangement with my current employer to continue on a consulting/telecommuting basis for at least a few months after I quit. I'm not sure whether I will stay long term in Pattaya or move around, so I want to rent by the month, at least at first. Does anyone know of places that are available, or if not, what general advice do you have? I plan to stay in a hotel for a week before I start working, so I need to find a place in that time frame. I'd really prefer a place that is on a baht bus route and reasonably close to the bar areas, but not right in the middle of them. I prefer a condo/apartment because when I am staying in a hotel my subconscious knows it and I have trouble staying in work mode - and I will have to be able to put in a solid days work most days. I will consider Pattaya (especially around Big C), Jomtien, or Naklua.

The requirements are:

* Broadband Internet ALREADY INSTALLED AND WORKING

* 40 square meters or more

* Reasonably quiet by Asian standards

* A decent desk or table to work at

* No more than one flight of stairs if no elevator

* Reasonably secure so I can leave laptop out - in-room safe a big plus

* Comfortable bed (yes, I know, a subjective standard)

* Reasonably attractive furniture

* Direct phone line

* Washer/dryer or laundry service available or nearby

Preferred:

* 50 sq meters+ if studio, or 60+ if one bedroom

* Bath tub instead of only shower

* Microwave and/or any cooking facilities

* Balcony

* Gym in the building

* Pool

* 5 minute walk or less to baht bus route

* 5 minute walk or less to convenience store and a few restaurants (plus for Western restaurants)

* A safe place to park a motorcycle

* Close to the beach, if in Jomtien or Naklua

I would like to pay under 20,000 baht plus utilities, but will go to 25.000 for the right place. I'd like to save money, but I want good value, so I would rather pay 23K for a big place that has everything I want than 14K for one that barely meets my minimum requirements. I also understand that what you want and what you get are not always the same thing. These prices seem doable based on what I have read, but if you think differently, let me know.

Looking at your list, the LK Metropole would satisfy all your requirements, except for price. See this topic for FLB discounted rates.

Good luck at finding what you want for that price. If you do, I will consider moving there as well.

IMO it's hardly possible to find lower rates than the FLB at LK Metropole unless you lease for more than 6 or 12 months. I know a guy who stays in a suite with bedroom for 18 k a month but has been there for years (not LK Metropole).

Have a look at LK royal suites at the beginning of soi baukaw...they tick all the boxes............however at 80,000 baht a month they might be over your budget!!!!

I believe they give a discount for long stay ( maybe 20percent.)

OK so this info is absolutely no use to you but i suggest you take a look whilst your here anyway....you'll be blown away. If your earning cash working from condo and want all your luxuries then this is the joint for you.

Jacuzzi large bath/ shower room ensuite

4 balconies

plush leather furniture

internet

phone

full euro kitchen (stove,microwave)

seperate bedroom/living room/kitchen

wood floor

dining area (seats 4)

tv in each room with cable

nice pool

seperate sun terrace area

safe

security cameras cover every floor

air con (every room with remote)

free water daily (drinking)

large office desk+chair for computer and work

on and on and on........quite simply its the bollocks

I reckon if you done a 6month stunt here you could negotiate big style!!!!!

Thanks for the info MM. I had seen your post before and the Metropole is one of my fall-back options, but I hope to be able to find a less expensive, less luxurious place. This would be easy to do if the broadband was not an absolute requirement, but it is.

I just can't imagine why anyone would post about a place that costs 80K a month in a thread where someone is asking about units in the 20K range. That would seem to belong in a completely separate thread.

Wow, just read the most recent posts on the Metropole thread. Sounds as if there is no way I would want to stay there. 24x7 broadband already installed is an absolute must, without having to log in/log out each time. In addition, those type of systems often prevent connection to my company's VPN.

Cholanon apartments is under 20K and has wired broadband. It's on Soi Lengkee. They don't have a web site or anything, so you'll have to call, make a reservation when you're in town, or have someone reserve a room for you. I don't have the number offhand, but hopefully some of the other boardies do.

I should put a follow up on the Metropole thread. They apparently have implemented the timed system for new customers. The long stay residents I spoke to can avoid the timed system by paying 2000B/month for unlimited internet access. Since I was doing that all along, my connection is exempt.

What I'll do is find out if they have an option for monthly residents to pay 2000B for unlimited access rather than buying the timed access.

  • 3 weeks later...

Torrenova, I was hoping someone with a condo at View Talay would respond, but only one person did and that one was too large and expensive - a triple unit converted into a 2 bedroom apartment. However, my employer is taking a long time to finalize details on my new contract, and after the first month I am unclear how long I will be in Pattaya, so a hotel is probably a better option. Things should stabilize around September, so if I liked my month there I may come back and look for a place to rent for another 6 - 9 months.

As for the bath tub, it is in lieu of a jacuzzi - I have bad knees.
