Car Hire (RENTAL) or Taxi?

Recommended Posts

Hi Boardies.

I will be returning tto the LOS in September but this time will have the family in tow. Spending a couple of days in Pattaya and then am planning to go to Cha'am. I am looking for advice for the journey transfer. I would like to drive it myself in a rental car. Has anyone else done this. What is the route like? Is it easy to get lost? How long did it take? Would you do it again? What rental company did you use? How much did it cost?

How about going by taxi? Any recommendations of who would do this long journey and how much would it cost.

Thanks in advanced folks

I travelled to Hua Hin (20 km further than Cha Am) from Pattaya last week. The route was:-

Pattaya to Victory Monument (Bangkok) Taxi 2.5 hours 1100 baht

Victory Monument to Hua Hin Mini Bus 3.2 Hours 160 baht

The Mini Bus is a lot faster than the big bus from the Southern Bus Station and the Victory Monument is much easier to get to from Pattaya. It does the trip non-stop but does stop in Cha Am if required..

The Mini Bus left shortly after my arrival in the taxi so the transit time was just under 6 hours. I left Pattaya at 6 am and was in Hua Hin at Midday.

A cheaper option would be Pattaya - Ekamai Bus 110 baht

Ekamai - Victory Monument BTS 40 baht

I think a taxi would cost about 3000 baht for the complete journey.
