How do you guys feel about so much extra for Club or First ?? Do you pay it ??

I am definatly not a cheap charlie but I just cannot for the life of me justify £2000 upwards for a bigger seat as compared to £400-500 for a duration of 12 hours or thereabouts ??

And am very tall as well.

I just cannot justify £1500 extra for sitting in an aluminium tube thats gets me to destination 10 seconds after premium seats !!

Yeah I pay extra too, years of traveling for the company business class spoiled me.

I shop around a lot, refusing to pay £3000 to BA. I normally pay between £1200-1500, My last one was a cheap one, China Airlines, it would have been good but some lowlifes were upgraded.

It isn't only the bigger seat.... lots of other advantages.

It's the fast check-in

It's the access to lounges and being able to find a seat, rather than aimlessly wandering a shopping mall where all the seats are occupied by selfish people who sleep on 3.

It's not having to put up with kids (normally)... or drunks for 12 hours in a cramped seat.

I came over in economy the once,, trapped in the middle of a row of 5, unable to get a drink or get out to the bathroom. It is tortuous. I only travel 2 times/year, and budget for it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I flew back into the UK on the A340 last Sunday (went out the previous Saturday) so a short but sweet visit.

I flew business class and have to say there is not a lot of difference to Business on the 747 (especially if you are upstairs on the 747). One thing that is noticable however is how quiet the cabin is on the A340, they say it is the quetest cabin in the sky and I would tend to agree with them. Service with Thai in Business is always OK, never outstanding but Ok - on a good day Emirates or Etihad will beat it, but the trouble with both those is they are not consistant. Also with Emirates you have to watch out for which aircraft is on the route as you can find you pay a business class fare for a crap seat (think 1980's business class), although the aircraft with the new cabin are great.

One advantage with flying Thai is that you get priority fasttrack inbound and outbound ,although no one will tell you where the fasttrack is on the way in (it is on the far right hand side of the immigration hall nearest concource C). Going out you check in and are then escorted to Thais own outbound desks - always through in 2 or 3 minutes and straight into the lounge. Thai lounges are OK but the food selection in the BUsiness lounges is poor, it is much better in the Emirates lounge.

Will be heading back to LOS for a week in May and will be flying Emirates business class (paying economy but upgrading to business with miles). Then over for 10 days in November but have not yet decided who to fly with - I am tempted to try Emirates from Heathrow so that I can sample the A380, but the flight times on Thai are more convenient. As to cost, if I am paying full business class I usually pay around £1800 on both Thai and Emirates - quite ofter the Thai website shows silly prices but it always comes back to around £1800 at some stage so I just wait to book until this happens.

Hope this mindless rambling is of some interest

It is a lot of interest to me.

How do you persevere and get these £1800 Biz Clas seats on Thai, I never see them?

Let us know if you ever do the A380.

I fly into Manchester so my choices are limited (transfer in LHR.... no thanks).

I was disappointed with the step down in Biz Class on Emirates, good on the DXB-BKK leg, but to MAN a lesser service. Electric seats and IFE kept crapping out on both legs, There is Fast Track at Manchester but you basically just go through another gate, have a dedicated boarding pass check, then come into the middle of the (long) line for security (no dedicated scanners). Not sure if you are supposed to just push in, but the staff just ignore you and those in the long line glower as you appear to be queue jumping.

China Airlines to UK and KLM back this trip. KLM have upgraded their service, but you come back to reality with a bump on the awful AMS-MAN hop which is like a Greyhound bus trip.

Anyone know what aircraft will be flying on TG 917/916 in June from LHR. Are there any seats worth pre booking or are they all the same?

Do a booking enquiry on thai's website and it will tell you.

For 11th june it says 917/916 is the 747 and 910/911 is the A340/600

Seatguru.com will give you an idea of what seats are good/not good
