Central London to Stanstead

Recommended Posts

Stanstead Express from Liverpool Street Station. Get there by bus, tube, train or taxi.

If you haven't booked Air Asia, please do a door to door total cost calculation. Before and perhaps now, you had to stay overnight in KL on at least one leg. With no service on board, I don't think it is such good value when you can go full service indirect for about £400 these days.

Back to the question.

If you have lots of luggage and don't know your way around the underground system, then you're going to have a crap journey. From Kings Cross or Paddington, get the Circle Line but getting to the Circle Line platform is a nightmare. From Victoria, Circle Line or bus, from Victoria Bus Station (National Express) then you could walk to Victoria underground, about a mile away but better to get the bus to Stansted.

The easiest is a taxi of course but the most expensive.

If coming from north of Stansted, then go direct and bypass London.

Cheers Torrenova, the more i look into it, the less appealing it becomes.

Gonna have another look at flight costs from main London airports, or maybe Manchester, when taking into account overnight hotel stays and transport to and from airport it looks like a different way will work out cheaper in the end.

Hi Mate,

As the BM above has covered the journey to stanstead part and very well in my humble opinion, I would like to way in on the Air Asia bit...be very careful, the big numbers you see advertized are generally for ONE WAY only. So when you factor in the onward leg to bangkok, then all the return legs and the possible overnighter in KL it generally isn't any cheaoer. You maybe able to get a deal with another airline for KL to BKK but when you look around at the deals going at moment straight from the uk such as:

(of course this depends on when your going but the deals below are showing availability in Aug/Sept/Oct at least on Netflights)

e.g. EVA are running a promotion of £405.00....Thats direct from LHR....that is flipping amazing, I was chuffed to pay £500.00 in march this year and thought that was a deal. Jet are running via Mumbai for arouind £340.00 along the most of the Arab airlines if you don't mind indirect flights.

If I was fliying to KL as my destination I would consider them...that and Stanstead is closer to me than LHR...but if flying on anywhere else I just don't think the figures stack up against the deals that are floating around this low season.

Have a good trip dude...

I think the big deal with Air Asia comes around if your final destination, or part of your itinerary, isn't one of the main hubs. So if you're including the likes of Angeles, Siem Reap, Vientiane (even Phuket, Krabi or Chiang Mai) then the numbers and timings can crunch out in your favour. The problem is that you've got to be prepared to do a bit of leg work on their website. On the plus side, it's good to see that they now include all the taxes/admin fees etc in their advertised prices.

I do agree with some of the others and I live about 60 miles drive from Stansted.

When I leave at the end of December I could have flowen to Bangkok from Stansted with Air Aisa which would have cost £499 plus the extra for 20kg luggage, food, entertainment etc and that price was only to KL.

I got a great price with EVA for £530 direct from Heathrow which is direct and covers my lugguage weight, food and entertainment.

Also becareful with the train times you don't want to get stuck at Stansted overnight

Gonna leave it, flight back arrives at 23:35, so stuck in Stanners for the night , great !

Thanks for the heads up on Eva, gonna get straight on it.

Don't mind indirect flights, as long as the stopover aint more than, say, 4 hours, but flexible on that depending on the cost.

Agreed Tom. Also good if doing some touring by air and can use KL as a hub. A useful option also if you live near Stansted.

However, as you and others have said, you need to do your homework and all the sums. Personally, I don't think it is a player unless it significantly undercuts the other options and that is after you've added in all the ancillary costs like drinks and food.
