Not sure this will help much but, Asiana Airline has a site for foreigners living in the ROK.  They run discounted fares that can only be purchased online no earlier than 30 days before you travel.  They are offering ICN – BKK for $535 + tax for Feb 2004 flights. There is no PUS – BKK offering for Feb and I don’t know if they will offer it in the future.  There appear to be a limited number of seats at the discounted price.  They are a Star Alliance member but I’m not sure if you can accrue miles on these flights.

The cheapest flight that I came across from Pusan to BKK was $800.  You have to fly Korean Air to Incheon and then Cathey Pacific to BKK.  This is a long route because you have to stop in Hong Kong first.  Korea Air and Delta have a $700 flight from Incheon direct to BKK.  Judging by your handle, couldn't you catch a military flight to Osan and then take a bus to Seoul for the direct flight to BKK or catch a hop to Sigapore?  It's a little cheaper for me here in Japan, but still almost the same cost as coming from the states to BKK($600) on United.  Of course Egypt air is the cheapest($390).

no idea on the Space A flights out of pusan to osan....have some people on this end looking into a few options on that avenue.....but no luck so far....no big thing though....we have a few months to get this together...just a bit depressing as when id fly manila to BKK over the last few years(just recently left the philippines and joined the navy) i could get flights for as little as 300$ on a days notice.....still dont get why flights from a country that is much more advanced(but maybe that falls into it partly) cost double but the distance isnt that much further

I think some of the reasons for the high costs has something to due with expensive fuel, tax the airline has to pay to the airport, landing and takeoff costs and other costs countries charge.  I can fly to Chicago from Japan for almost the same price it costs me to fly from Japan to BKK.  If I chose Egypt Air from JP to BKK, the cost is between $350 and $400.  It's not that bad of a flight, but I like to earn miles using Star Alliance which is under United Airlines.

I'm  planning a trip in April to Pattaya after the Songkran.  So far, prices are quoted as UA: $570, Thai: $700, NW: $560, India Air: $490 and of course, Egypt Air: $390.
