Boston to BKK $1270?????

Recommended Posts

Looked up a ticket tonight for the end of may.  United quoted $1270 for economy class from boston.  Just flew same itinerary a month ago for $760.  Anyone else coming up with these rediculous prices???

Andy,

I looked at a flight from Orlando Fla. last night when I got home (what else would you do after flying 24 hours comeing back from Pattaya!) and the price was $833, today I am having the same problem as you. The V class fares are not showing up. I had this same problem in early December and after a couple of days they showed up again. I think maybe the problem is with the website and not the fares. Maybe you can call united and ask for the V class fare or wait a couple of days. I do not think they have sold out, at least I hope they haven't.

jte,

called united and got the price of 1270 from them.  I also checked into leaving from new york and the price was only 758.   I tried to get an explanation of the 500 dollar difference but there was none.  I am assuming that something is just messed up with their fares for some reason.  The lowest available fare for Boston is an H class.  I looked into using miles and nothing was available from boston yet when i break it up through san francisco, the flights are all available with miles.  I ended up using my miles to book a couple of tickets to the dominican republic to go watch the superball in 2 weeks on the beach.  I am sure something will come of the high fares otherwise i will just make the 4-5 hour trip to new york to save myself 500 dollars :)

Angeltravel is good, and may I suggest these others:

www.orbitz.com

www.sidestep.com

www.netstar.com

www.itasoftware.com

That price from Boston seems outrageous and I'm positive you can improve on that. Good luck and happy hjolidays......Ernie

Jte,

What airlines do you normally take from Orlando ? Did you have to fly via the west coast ( LA / SFO ) or did you fly over Europe ? I live in Miami and would sure like to avoid an extra 6 hours to SFO / LA ?

Cheers

Ian,

I am flying with United. I have so many miles now that I am able to book the economy plus seats for the lowest price and reserve the exit rows when I book. I was looking at North West when I started but just missed thier "e fares" and the cheapest I could find after that was United. From Orlando the fares through Europe are about 3 times the price as going through either Chicago or the west coast. My tickets are usually in the $850 range while anything that i have seen through Europe are over $2000. It is still over 10,000 miles either way I think.

Jte,

Thanks a ton. I normally fly united too. Just wanted to check if there was an easier way around. Flights via Europe will probably have fewer stops & hence the interest.

Ian,

I used to live in S Florida and it is easier and much cheaper to fly to BKK via the west coast.  I don't know why there is such a huge disparity in ticket costs for travel roughly the same distance.  All I can figure is competition with the Asian airlines and less business fliers makes west coast seats cheaper.

Andy,

It looks like they may have the ticket prices sorted out on United.com now. For a week the only fares I could find were over $1100 and finally today (after sending a few e-mails) I see they have them listed again in the $850 range.
