If you are coming from Australia, Philippine airlines has a deal going to Bangkok via Manila. You can stop over as long as you want in Philippines and then get a connecting flight to Bangkok.

Check with your travel agent as the fares are pretty good. (somewhere around $900.00 plus taxes).
