In this week's Pattaya Mail, check out the letter from one Ignatius Riley about "Saddened by reports of street crime".  He's the main character in A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole.  Easily one of the funniest books I've ever read (though to be honest, every person I've recommended the book to hated it - just goes to show how I'm right and everyone else is wrong I guess - but I digress.)

I read the letter http://www.pattayamail.com/current/letters.shtml#hd2

On my first trip I was armed with the knowledge from this board on #1 where to go, and #2 where not to go.

Oceanside of beach road, and the pier.

And just by checking it out, I could see why.  I had a Thai girl that wanted to "sit by the sea"  I told her its not a good idea.  She looked around for a minute (daytime) and agreed, she said thai man want steal you baht chain, lets go.

She said how about walk the pier?  I said its more dangerous there.  We walked by it and didnt venture on it, and she said you right, ladyman want rob us.

The information that is read from this board is very helpful to the first time visitor, without it I would of probally gotten robbed too.  ;) M_H

Something to think about:

http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/reader/reader578.html

"In the process of "subduing" this guy he "fell" to the pavement and scraped his elbow in the process. He looked at his elbow and saw a minuscule amount of blood was seeping from a scrape the size of a pin head. He calmly looked me in the eye and said "I've got you now" in English, little did I know. Well to make a long story short we were required to go to the Thong Lor police station to straighten this all out. When we got there I learned to my horror that Thai blood is SACRED and ANY AMOUNT NO MATTER HOW SMALL SPILLED BY A NON THAI IS BIG TROUBLE. "
