  1. last time i arrived at swampi i spotted a funny sign there, "smoker room 835m --->". half a mile for a cigarette. got lucky with the bus to jomtien though, boarded the last one at 21:00. the driver also stops in naklua, and at the pattaya north, central, and south roads, last stop is in jomtien near the view talay 1 condo. about 120 baht, comfortable ride, less than two hours to pattaya. if a taxi starts with a detour to its home gas station somewhere in downtown bangkok what they do more often than not, you need more time. if you arrive on the airport between 05:00 and 21:00, the bus shuld
  2. My electricity bill is a little below 3 baht/unit. For my 62 sqm condo, I pay usually 270 - 320 Baht a month. Haven't used the aircon for almost a year (till 30 celsius I can do with fan only), and discovered the frigging thing's broken in the horribly hot days after Songkran. My landlord was in Rome or so, and no one could fix it. Thank God it started to rain and got somewhat cooler.
  3. Been living there for years, that leaves condominiums only to choose from. Prefer it quiet, therefore far out in Jomtien. Soi Buakaow would be living hell for me, though whatever you need, it's cheap there. Have you seen this gagster? http://www.thompsonresorts.com/ quoted from his webpage..."Thompson House Hotel and Service Apartment centrally located on south Pattaya 22 road (soi Buakao) which is surrounded by sea and mountains. Just a few minutes from every direction you will find many of Pattaya's tourist attractions." Soi Buakaow which is surrounded by sea and mountains. Yeah
  4. Brian, it's not acceptable. They charge 9 baht/unit for juice at R-Con, that's three times the electricity company charges them. Neither acceptable is the price for towels and bedding, for 1,400 a month you can purchase them brand new every week at Big C. Laundry would be perhaps 200 baht in a month. Was in R-Con a couple of weeks ago, the banner said 'promotion 9,990 baht / month'. Small rooms, not especially beautiful, and utilities/services far too expensive. Non smoker rooms only, BTW.
  5. A thing like "reliable pick up" on the airport does not exist. The driver can be late, or not be there at all, or bored in case your plane is late, or, regularly, your name is written wrong on the sign he's holding, or you go the wrong of two ways after you pass customs, you miss him and you are pissed. No refund. Last time I met 'my' driver at the airport he was late half an hour, it's not funny to walk around with a helpless face and fight back the whole rat pack of airport based taxi entrepreneurs. Found him some fifty meters from the point he was supposed to be, flirting with some girl. No
