  1. Yeah thats what happened to me a lot before when I tried the trick of ordering my drink right away. MM's phrase works, had one of the girls I got help me with pronunciation. With my most recent girl I just let her order everything for us. She usually does a good job and there hasn't been much food that I have not liked.
  2. What are you and english teacher.
  3. Man you guys are really passionate about this topic. Much more than me. I assume you guys don't hang out in Pattaya since it is nothing like the rest of the country and caters to foreigners. Cool with me either way. Anyways I am using MM's line.
  4. Thanks boss hopefully it doesn't mean please go in the back and piss in my beer.
  5. Yeah I have done that a couple times. The drinks have come very quickly though.
  6. Or I could just learn how to politely say come back in ten minutes in thai which is why I posted this in the first place. But happy I could piss you off. Here are a couple more things I do not like: Trash on the beach/streets, drivers being completely inconsideriate of pedestrians or any vehicle smaller than them, suit makers wanting to shake my hand, and sewage draining into what could be a beautiful beach. Hope that list doesn't make you lose to much sleep.
  7. Someone should really tell Thai servers that westerners do not like it when the server immediately hovers over them as soon as they sit down. I cannot remember a restaurant where they don't stand right by you looking at you until you are ready to order. I find it very uncomfortable and I would assume most other westerners would as well. Can anyone phonetically spell out the sentence Please come back to take my order in 10 minutes in thai?
  8. Sounds good I will be there on Friday. Hope to see a lot of girls. Think I will head over now for a Thai omelette.
  9. Nice place. Had the Mutton vindaloo and a vegetable paneer dish along with some Naan and a bottle of water. Food was good, service was excellent, restraunt was clean and comfortable with the fans turned on. Set me back about 280 baht. Pretty good deal considering price of a lot of indian food in Pattaya.
  10. Anyone interested let me know.
  11. Hey M62 glad to see an update from you. Even though I recommended the annuity I will be honest and say that your insurance agent has a big incentive to tell you that it is great. I do think it is a good way to go but it is important to shop around. Also do some legwork first and research them yourselves so you understand them and their expenses as best as possible. There are a lot of uncompetitive annuity products out there and annuity fee structures are not very transparent. Having said that, even an annuity with high fees is likely to give you a higher income than a relatively safe sust
  12. Congrats man I really like chilling out at your bar. I won't make it in time for the celebration but am hoping you have several more anniversaries and that your idea of a haven for freelancers pans out.
  13. I hate change give me back the old forum . Guess I am in the minority though. Edit: NM just found this out: When you click on a thread, It opens and on the right there is a rating with stars and an options button. Clicked it, clicked standard and problem fixed. I am good now
  14. Kick ass I will be there. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Can you please add Muttar Paneer to the menu for the weeks of May 13 through June 10.
  16. Some good points I do not disagree that annuities are very profitable and many are very uncompetitive due to their complexity and the fact that it is difficult to determine the costs associated with annuity. I would not reccomend annuities for anyone who is young as the costs will strip away any benefits that the annuitie's mortality credits would provide(more on these in a second). They do however do something most investors do not do own their own and that is pool the savings of several individuals to provide lifetime income to everyone in that group with the reallocation of the contributio
  17. Solvency is a legitmate concern but can be solved as you can spread the purchase across companies. This has a cost though as it will lower your return somewhat. Most insurers have reinsurance and spread their risk effectively though so I wouldn't be too concerned with picking an individual company. Also while some insurance companies have had problems recently they met their obligations (along with the help of the U.S. taxpayers). If you don't have any bequest motives annuities are actually the most rational choice to fund retirement. There is a lot of price variation though so it pays to
  18. Checked out those bonds after Jacko corrected me. Expected return is only about 3.5%. The real return after inflation obviously would be very low. Depending on M62's age I am sure he could get an annuity that pays about 6%.
  19. Saw this topic on Yahoo and I have to strongly disagree with there 9 choices. What do you guys think? I am sure bm's could come up with 9 better ways to get happy in 30 minutes. Here is what they chose: 1. Raise your activity level to pump up your energy. If you're on the phone, stand up and pace. Walk to a coworker's office instead of sending an e-mail. Put more energy into your voice. Take a brisk 10-minute walk. Even better... 2. Take a walk outside. Research suggests that light stimulates brain chemicals that improve mood. For an extra boost, get your sunlight first thing in
  20. Well it isn't the first time I have been wrong, but everything I have said does not just appply to U.S. It holds anywhere except for the part about govt. bonds being safe. That obviously doesn't hold everywhere.
  21. Hi Robin just checking on my previous post and saw yours. I am only commenting because I want to put off doing my taxes and this sounded more fun. I know I am completely lame. Anyways here it is and its not an attack so I hope it doesn't come off like one. Not sure what you mean by premium bonds Robin. Usually it would mean a bond bought at more than its face value because it has a high coupon relative to current interest rates. But I don't think that's what your saying. Based on your comment about safety I am guessing you might mean a govt. bond? Or based on your comment about not n
  22. Indianbrit asked about seafood places in a new thread but since this one had more entries I figured I would answer him here. Not sure what the best is but I have been to Nang Nual on walking street and can confirm that it is good. Price was okay but I am sure there is cheaper. I have been to Vientiane also but I didn't have the seafood. I do remember that I didn't like what I had. I would give it another chance though as I have read a lot of good things about the restaurant. The location and setting do suck however. Big open air place with a view into a dirt lot and the worst music i
  23. The problem with seeking a country who has a high return is that there currency is likely to depreciate offsetting the gains you made from interest income. The main thing is safety. Since you are from the UK why not keep the majority of your money there as well as opening an account in Thailand with enough money for your short term needs, say 3mos. to a year. Or say fuck all and annuatize everything so that you get income for life. Might wait til interest rates increase for that though.
  24. That plate Kolobos threw up on the board looks pretty good, will have to give it a try. I have always enjoyed the Sportsman. Might be pricey but I have found it be consistent and of good quality. Sorry not Kolobos but Bigleg. You guys are in the same threads so often I get confused. Kolobos if I undersand it right you own Noi's. I got your webcam up now checkin out the Songkran activitities. I have never been to Noi's but plan on checkin it out my next trip.
