China Airlines have reversed their decision to scrap the dynasty class upgrade in favour of premium economy "upper" class. popped into trailfinders in newcastle today and to my delight they informed me that the dynasty business class advance upgrade is back on due to complaints that the "upper" class deal was wank! 01 sept - 30 Nov 2004. newcastle - ams - bkk return econ £424+ tax dynasty upgrade £187 each way. apparently people who have already booked "upper" are being upgraded to dynasty for free!! reckon it should work out at about £830 all in which is only 26 quid more than I paid for it two and a half years ago before they stopped it. what do you think?? I`m pretty chuffed. besty

loads of difference!!! premium economy on CI is an old upstairs business class seat and sod all else... economy food..no lounges.. economy drinks. dynasty class is full on business service.

well I for one would be very interested about china airlines doing a non stopper from manchester-bkk. much as I enjoy my stopovers in amsterdam, the hotels cost a bloody packet. thanks for the info cheshire tom and if you hear any more then please keep us informed.

I`m working in greece at the minute but about a couple of months ago working on November 4th departure it was 464 pounds from newcastle to bkk via amsterdam with klm doing the hopper flights and china air doing the main one.. this is economy but includes taxes. I`m REALLY REALLY pissed off with china air for changing their deal. Last year it was 804 pounds inc taxes with the china air flight in business..now they have this upper class deal which is basically a big seat and sweet f/a else.

I don`t understand why anyone would choose to fly British Airways unless the company are paying for it. In economy thai are miles better and slightly cheaper. If its econ+ then I hear very good things about eva. and if it`s business class and you`re paying yourself then why pay over £2000 to fly BA when you can fly China for about £800 and not have to put up with BA`s snotty as hell (not to mention ugly) cabin crew.

hey there! just my two penneth, I had very mixed experiences with CI dynasty class from ams - bkk. Firstly on both outbound and inbound flights from Newcastle there was no problem with checking yourself and baggage through to the final destination, so that was a blessing! The lounge at Schipol was superb as was the cabin crew service on both CI flights, it was very refreshing to see the champagne was Laurent Perrier rather than the usual Moet. Coming back from BKK we had one of the newer (refitted) 747`s and I totally agree with Cheshire Tom that the entertainment systems were excellent..now the bad bit.... on the outbound leg we had one of the unrefitted 747`s which was lousy.. the entertainment was exactly the same as economy. ie two shared tv`s for the entire cabin...three movies and thats yer lot.. so basically the inbound was great and exceptional value .. we paid 804 pounds for all flights and taxes...but the outbound was economy with big seats and slightly better food/drink....overall however I will definately fly this airline again especially if they refit those remaining 747`s toute suite!!! oh also if I`ve worked it out right with the CI frequent flyer programme you get a bus class upgrade every 4 and a half return flights which is pretty good..(I think).

I`m flying exactly the same route this monday!!!! ncl-ams with klmuk then that same CI66 Dynasty upgrade to BKK!! £804 inc taxes. I shall post a report when I get to LOS. Tom if your in Pattaya before the 27th and wanna meet up, I`d love to shout you a beer, as if it wasn`t for you I wouldn`t be in row 10!!!!
