  1. Cool Dude, How long is your emirates ticket valid for, 30 days, 60 days? John
  2. Thanks for your reply Russell. As I am going to Udon I have decided to forgo the dubious delights of Pattaya at this stage, ( will come down later) , and stay in BKK and catch an early flight to Udon the next day. I tried to edit my original post but could not find a way to do it. John
  3. Stevoman, check www.udonmap.com for all the info on Udon. I have just come back from there after 4 months and leave in 3 weeks for another 4 months. Another alternative is the overnight train. Get a lower sleeper berth for you and an upper for your TGF if you bring one... John
  4. I buy a one year ticket from Qantas/BA each year. The conditions are, before departure date changes permitted at no charge, after departure, date changes permitted at no charge. I flew home 28/2 on a ticket that I had changed the departure date twice. After ringing Qantas and changing date all that was required was to appear at check in in BKK. The Thais tried to charge a service fee of 500 baht but I had the original printout from Qantas thas showed no charges. They made one quick call and waived the charge. I contact the travel agency opposite friendship on second rd, (forget name bu
  5. Kimchee, I caught the free shuttle from BKK domestic to the international terminal and noticed a free shuttle bus marked DOWNTOWN leaving the domestic at the same time. This is the free bus as opposed to the 100 baht airport bus... John
  6. I arrive 31 march on QF 301 , 2130 hours if anyone wants to share. Sorry Bazza, you westcoasters get in too early in the day. John
  7. I enquired about a retirement visa with Nong Khai immigration at Udon AEK hospital. I am aged over 50 and receive 80k baht approx a month veterans pension from the Australian govt. They said provided I had a non immigrant O visa and had my income verified by the Australian embassy I would have no problem getting a retirement visa. As I was returning home for a month and my non imm O visa had almost expired I decided to get another non O visa and apply sometime in the coming year for the retirement visa. John
  8. Bazz, I flew Asia Air from Udon to Bkk and by the time I walked to the baggage area the baggage was on the carousel, 15 mins max. I do not know how long from arrivals to departures at BKK domestic but it is not a real big place. Asia Air were on time the four times I flew them... John
  9. I took my prescription and frames for reading glasses to Charon in walking street. About 100 metres on the left heading south. Two hours and a thousand baht later I had new lenses. They are good quality and I am satisfied. John
  10. I am departing Sydney on Qantas QF 1, 1755 hours 9/11/04, and have a guest pass for the Qantas club if anyone wants to have an hour or two with free drinks and snacks. Must be flying Qantas that day..... IM me John

  13. I know the bus station for the east and south east is Ekkamai, for the north and north east it is Mor Chit. I have travelled from the other one on the western side of the Chao Phraya river, to Kanchanaburi, and know the 511 is the connecting bus from Ekkamai. Can someone tell me the name of this third bus station? Thanks John
  14. Cybers, No, only report, edit and quote. No problems, somewhere down the track they will dissapear. John
  15. Can I delete one or more of my posts that have no replies and are no longer valid. I have posted in the Airline forum and the offer from Malaysia has now time expired. Same for Meeting and sharing posts. John
  16. Agree with you about CX Hub. I have flown with them a few times Brisbane HK and also Bkk HK and enjoyed the flights. They also have some good specials going in Aus at the moment, fly to HK and then BKK. All our flights to Asia are of a shorter duration than yours so not so uncomfortable. CX flights also give FF points for Qantas FF. John
  17. In 1968 in SVN a rumour circulated about a pic of Ann Margaret??? taken with a infra red camera that saw through her clothing. Everyone knew about it but no one had really seen the pic. John
  18. AMRivlin, as I live in the east I do not know what airlines fly BKK to Perth. On 4 June 2004 I paid 19,760 baht for return flight with Thai airlines BKK - Perth and around the same for BKK to Bris approx 20 June 2004 with Thai. Malasia have specials going to BKK at the moment so it may be worthwhile checking them out to see if anything going the other way. Sorry the info is a bit dated. John
  19. Thanks Echster, It looks like a bracket that something would clip into. Sure would beat the starlight scope of late 60's vintage. John
  20. Best flights, 1300 767 757 have flights valid for 35 days flying Malaysian for AUD$839 plus tax from all capitol cities. Only available untill 20/8. John
  21. For a few weeks before I came home (end June 04) there were large pyramidal concrete blocks along beach rd on the sea side. These were then buried with four bolts protruding. Have they installed new lighting along this strip. Sorely needed IMHO. John
