  1. It depends on how far up the food chain you are teaching. From general programmes in government shools through English/Mini-English programmes to the bilingual and international schools and corporate work. Both the Marriott in Hua Hin and the Amari on Koh Chang have advertised for in-house English trainers in the last week or so. I can think of worse ways to make a living in LOS.
  2. Yep, the teachers are still treated like shit but the uniforms make up for it.
  3. Silly ....... but accurate nonetheless. Who said ........ and I quote; Unfortunately very little else was attached ........ and what was was disassembled immediately afterwards. Funny that the Three Stooges have been a bit quiet lately.
  4. Unfortunately his "skill set" is unlikely to get him a work permit.
  5. They need May/June deliveries as the airlines have ordered it specifically for the Beijing Olympics. I think the Airbus guys in Hamburg might be indulging in a bit of schadenfreude at the moment .........
  6. LOL ...... Anybody else think that BigD starting a thread entitled Boeing 787 on schedule to fly in 2007 was like the kiss of death for the aircraft. He's never been right about anything in the past and it looks like he's aiming to maintain his 100% record here. The problem is that Boeing is actually manufacturing very little of the aircraft and have zero control over their programme partners, very few of whom are actually employing aircraft engineers but rather bog-standard fitters with the resulting problems. That said, as someone else pointed out, it has Boeing painted on the side so that's where the buck stops.
  7. The reality is that the plane they "rolled out" on 8 July was actually held together with screw fittings bought from the US version of the local B&Q .............. A war? When did the Yanks last turn up on time. The military version of Ole Gunner Solskjaer .......... they come on for the last ten minutes and try to take all the credit for scoring the winning goal.
  8. An excellent update today by Joe's flightblogger link ahead of the Boeing announcement later today............ http://flightblogger.blogspot.com/
  9. Gus, Be careful to check the rules on mixing and matching transferred miles with your own.
  10. Judging by the state of the braking system during rollout you might wonder what they've actually been talking about ....... Joe, The guy that does the blog has a very good reputation and has been spot on with his previous articles so I would think that the article is a pretty fair assessment of where things are.
  11. So now that BigD's prediction of August's first flight has, as normal, come to nought we now have the second contestand, Mr Scally, with his prediction ....................
  12. You don't need a degree to teach in Thailand. The lack of one will reduce your options but won't disqualify you from many jobs.
  13. Very true although I don't think it's any big deal if it does get moved back as long as the entry into service date ain't affected.
  14. The regulations are extremely complex but basically I think that an extended duty period, including pre-flight planning, with an augmented crew is around 16 hours. The Thai and SQ A345s operate with augmented crews i.e. they can take rest periods of minimum 3 hours that doesn't count towards duty time ............ or something along those lines. Flying westabout (i.e. from the westcoast US to SEA) is so long that the airline would then lose the whole augmented crew for a good few rest days. I'm sure Mango will have the answer. Anyway, back to the subject of the thread .......... from Scally's favourite publication ..... Boeing may acknowledge further 787 delays next week By Dominic Gates Seattle Times aerospace reporter Boeing is expected to announce Wednesday a further delay in the first flight of its 787 Dreamliner jet — one that could push that milestone into late October or beyond, according to a person close to the program. Almost eight weeks after the jet rolled out with great fanfare in Everett, mechanics are still working to finish the airplane's structure, which was partly dismantled after the July 8 rollout ceremony. Replacing thousands of temporary fasteners with permanent ones has taken longer than anticipated, and the installation of wiring and other systems has hardly begun, according to the source.
  15. Emil, You are correct. That said, I think both Hong Kong and Singapore will have a higher priority than BKK purely because of the number of premium fare pax. I don't get the bit about onward connections though. Surely the whole point of point-to-point is that you don't have connections. SFO/LAX to BKK with connecting pax sounds awfully like a typical hub-to-hub operation.
  16. Can the 787 do BKK non-stop from continental US with a viable payload? It would have to be double-crewed for starters. Which airline that has ordered the aircraft has plans to do the routes? As far as I know there is only Continental of the US carriers that has ordered the long-range variant up to now that could do the route.
  17. I can assure you that I understand airline pricing and yield management systems perfectly well; but thanks for your concern.
  18. I think it was also the likely cause of so many accidents on that section of the M25 between the M3 and M4. Maybe we should start a Concorde appreciation thread.
  19. Jack, Jeez ............... just for you .......... Check the outbound and return dates. If you don't believe me, take your own advice and phone the airline. As I said, try booking for yourself. 20. No, Jack. The validity period refers to the date of the outbound flight. The return must be made within one month from that date. The price is valid for outbound flights up to and including 30 Nov. You don't have to take my word for it ....... try for yourself.
  21. The Concorde image probably recouped more in overseas tourist revenue than it cost to build so the taxpayer was probably better off at the end of the day. A bit like the images of Sydney Harbour Bridge or the Statue of Liberty do for the Aussie/US economies. One things for sure, you won't have many countries fighting over who gets a 747 for their museums. I think we've been over this before but Concorde was an absolute cash-cow for British Airways. Yep, especially when you consider that Concorde was built entirely from recycled washing and sewing machines except for the outer skin which was made from reconstituted anderson shelters.
  22. Don't forget their opposition to "noise pollution" .......... after Pan-Am, TWA, United and American Airlines had cancelled their orders post the seventies oil crisis.
  23. No, it is available to any internet booking. No, the credit card doesn't need to be presented only, as I said originally, the ID Doc notified during the booking process.
  24. Etihad can be had for 20k plus tax on their website during November (26k all in). No need for the cardholder to be present at check-in (you have to supply the passenger's I.D. Document number during the booking process, nothing more).
