I've seen this in 2 different (lower rent) buildings in Pattaya. I don't think they're up to no good, it seems like a group living situation where most of them don't have a key card so they have to wait for someone like me and then follow me in. Just had it happen with 2 thai girls right now. I'd say it happens quite often, like 10-20% of the time I'm heading home late at night. Is my hunch right? Is it common for Thais to do this and have a room key but not a "lobby door" keycard? Are they hiding from the landlord or is this just how it is?

Passed by this place, East of Jomtien. Big building with relatively little nearby except for a park and a few shops. Anyone know what goes on there?

Every time there is a scuflle with security in a gogo or some other place the cameras are all broken. If I was the police I'd immediately arrest everyone in management for lying to the police and sort it out later. Just curious if anyone has experience with this? Surely the police know it's an excuse. Here one example but certainly not the only example:

I like to go cycling through the city but the only park area I know of is near Bali Hai, where there used to be a parking lot (now a seating area with planters, and a large blue empty space). There is a more normal park on the Hill area around where the symbolic Pattaya sign is as well. Same general area. Are there any other parks? I see some green spots, but appear to be only driving ranges on Google Maps.

3BB requires a 1 year prepay. Because of this, when things go bad others have reported them to be slow to help you. True doesn't try to rope expats in. Their service is good 90% of the time. 10% of the time I'm guessing they are implementing maintenance or upgrades and service gets a bit shaky. I have AIS and on mission critical days when True is acting up I use a 1 day 4G Data for 40 baht.

I recently bought a bicycle and would like to do some exploring while getting my exercise in. Not ready for a trip to BKK on it just yet. So far my list of places to visit has only one destination: Ban Chang. I don't know too much about the area though. Anything else that's moderately far from Pattaya (20-50 km) and worth a trip?

Getting moto taxis to follow you
simplelife replied to simplelife's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I agree, I can just hand a card to a girl with 50 baht and tell her to meet me at the guesthouse in 10 minutes. Problem is being Indian American this will make me look even cheaper than I am :) But beach road girls aren't picky so it's ok. -
Getting moto taxis to follow you
simplelife replied to simplelife's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Good idea, I think I'll do that! -
Probably a dumb question: If I'm on my bicycle and I see a girl, I may want to take her. But that means hiring a moto taxi. One option is telling the moto taxi where my guesthouse is, non-ideal due to language and imprecision. The other is having him slowly follow me to my place on Soi Buakao. You guys think they'll be okay with that or am I going to have to go home just to drop off the bike?

Thoughts on swimming in the water
simplelife replied to simplelife's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
PBG pier? Is that the small one next to beer garden? -
I usually do running as my cardio but need something lower impact for a while. I've stayed away from the water upon hearing rumors that the Thais run their sewage lines right into the gulf. Sounds preposterous but in a 3rd world country one can't be sure. Are the rumors overstated, or is it really best to avoid swimming in the ocean?

Chinese Women Fuel Thai Tourism Boom: Reuters
simplelife replied to Evil Penevil's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
This is just how the chips lie. Women are still programmed to treat sexual encounters as having a 25% chance of death if they get pregnant. Bad programming but we are no better in that regard. Regular mongering is meant to be a rich man's playground due to that extreme perceived cost. When the local economy gets to parity then the rest of us will go back to saving up for a month to bang a handful of times, if that. -
Lazada has them for 550 for a pack of 10. Would be nice to have a local option though. Someone will probably ask how they feel. For me bareback is a 10: Cheap chinese condoms and no lube are a 2, hate it. With lube a 5. Okamoto 001s with lube are a 6.5 or 7. Not bareback but the best protected option I know of.

Chinese Women Fuel Thai Tourism Boom: Reuters

An unfortunate trend that is likely to continue and that we can do nothing about. When Thailand gets too rich, Cambodia is still next door though. Pol Pot wasn't such a bad guy after all! -
Best time of year to go to Pattaya?
simplelife replied to Tucker_69er's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
May. It's the very beginning of the time that the girls step up their game. They do it consciously by the way. The tradeoff is a lot of the hottest ones are gone. -
The Puerto Rico situation made me think about this. I always have canned beans though not a stock that would last more than a week. And thanks to the poor water quality I have somewhere between 0 to 4 big jugs of water. Other than that, not much else. What is a good emergency supply for this part of the world?

I'm looking to take care of some minor sleep apnea issues, nothing too serious. The closest hospital to me as Pattaya city hospital, but I haven't been to any of them during my time here. For anyone who's shopped around, which has the cheapest doctor's fee for a simple visit? I'm guessing it would probably be Pattaya City or Pattaya Memorial as those community hospitals are usually a little bit cheaper.

First 3 months in Thailand was like being in some magical place, I still remember just being in a trance as I walked up and down Sukhumvit (in BKK). Now in Pattaya 2.5 years later and I can't believe I'm saying it, but the magic is mostly gone. I mean, if I consciously remember the stressed commute, lack of sex, high rents etc of the US then I can still objectively say Thailand is better. But walking around day to day the Disneyland feel is gone and sex is like a higher end version of a Big Mac. I guess I should have known that it would all normalize eventually. Do you guys have any wa

I think I snagged the last unit at that size. Mostly they have fan rooms at 3.5k. Electric is expensive (10/unit) Street traffic can be heard from the back room. The front room is quiet though. Check out that area and you're bound to find something especially after high season. Many Thai style places in that range.

I just found a 1 bedroom Thai style place on Buakhao and South Pattaya Rd for 5k/month. The bedroom also is completely quiet to the outside traffic. Only downside to it is a girl could theoretically do the "oh look my clothes are on, I guess the LT is over" move when she wakes up! I'll see about ensuring some clothes are taken off or moved to the main room to avoid this ;p

Studios are just one room

This can be difficult for me when the girl's sleep cycle is different from my own (which it usually is). I work from my computer so normally have the lights on, but with a sleeping girl I would need to be in the dark and quiet the next night which is not a good workspace. Does anyone else have this issue? How do you deal with it?

Sorry you guys feel your efforts were wasted. I learned quite a lot from this board to prepare for my upcoming trip. -
Overcoming the Indian Stigma
simplelife replied to simplelife's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
When you say "You Indians need a culture change" are you talking specifically to me or someone else? -
After reading stories about Indians in Thailand it appears we have a poor reputation. I'm a 28 year old Indian American planning a trip to Thailand. I am frugal. But not an excessive negotiator, nor do I plan on bringing a herd of friends to harm unsuspecting Thai girls (I'm coming alone). Despite this I feel there will probably be some hurdles to overcome to break the negative stereotypes with the bar girls. They say a man's dress confer's his status. Do you guys think I should pack my suit and plan to wear it when pursuing bar girls, or would this just be seen as foolish in the Thai
