Girl and LB friendly. Rooms have safe. Full already for November unless they have a cancellation.
-
Areca is full in November, so it's as popular as ever. I could not get ANY room when I emailed 6 weeks ago. The building at the back was almost complete in June, so by now there should be no constuction noise, just fitting out of rooms. The back pool is closing (or maybe closed already) for re-tiling and an extension to the surrounding areas to allow extra sun beds. The new wing will have it's own dining rooom, so the "old" breakfast room should not get any busier. There will be some more condos built on the land on the west side where the piles have already been sunk, not

What a joke of a price
The_Fat_Controller replied to rascall's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
You must be having a senior moment, the rates for next year are the same as this year, no increase at all ! In fact the Executive Room price is dropping by 200 Baht. A discount is available if you stay for a month (March-October) as it clearly states on the website. Areca website rates are what you actually pay when you book direct, a slightly better rate may be available from AtSiam.com -

Areca Lodge - Front or Back Wing
The_Fat_Controller replied to neilo68's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
In the front wing you have 2 chairs with cushions rather than the 1 big laid-back chair. The front rooms have a full width balcony with a chair. There are 2 shelves over the fridge area. I was there in June 2009 and they have replaced the bedside tables with new units that have a large shelf and drawer, useful for underwear and other essential bedroom equipment. I was in Room 303. Floor 2 has twin beds and if you are over the restaurant you can hear everybody moving their chairs about, AVOID !!! Construction noise at the back is not bad now, Areca's new building is almost c -
A330 v B777 Both wide-body, both 2 engines, both 2 aisles, both HEAVY wake vortex category. Seems very similar to me. Look at seatguru and you will see that the Emirates 777 seats ARE narrower than those in the A330 although you get a little more legroom.
-
My experience :- AIRBUS 330 2-4-2 seating, Boeing 777 3-4-3 seating and NARROWER aisles. However, the cabin in the Airbus has a much more spacious feeling and is brighter. http://www.seatguru.com

I concur, the 3-4-3 in the 777 means that anyone in an aisle seat gets nudged by anyone or anything moving along the plane. The seats were not too bad but the aisles are very narrow.. The Airbus 330 they used on the Glasgow service for the first year and currently use out of Newcastle is a much more pleasant way to fly.

Good luck with Cebu Pacific, they have never answered ANY emails or feedback forms concerning the 4000+ Pesos they have owed me for 12 months. All I did was re-book flights and the website said the refund would be on my credit card with 45 days. Have also been the victim of a cancelled flight and re-route via Manila.

All seems to be fine now thanks, nothing worse than crumbling cookies, it makes a mess at the bottom of your tea/coffee cup. -

MM, just for info, I am in no way complaining, honestly ! Put computer in HIBERNATE and went away for 2 hours. Router stayed connected with the same IP address. Came back to this board and found I was logged out. Logged in OK and the board had my last log in time as correct. Navigated away to another couple of boards, both remembered me OK, one from a couple of days ago. Came back here and was still logged in. I suggest you go and drink lots of beer, at least your head will hurt for another reason. Best Regards, Martin, Troon, Scotland, UK. PS Been back -

Cookies for the board cleared as requested, had to log in again. Browser closed and re-opened and I was remembered. Router rebooted, new IP address, NOT remembered ! -

MM, for info. Today, I have visited the board 3 or 4 times and each time it remembered me, I was using IE8 with cookies enabled and nothing being deleted on closing the browser, nothing manually deleted either. I then rebooted my router and got a new IP address. I then had to log in again. PS. Just closed browser and re-opened and it remembered me ! -

I only use IE8 and NOTHING is deleted on closing the browser session. AOL incorporates a version of IE, but I seldom use this integrated version. On reflection, it is NOT an IP address issue, as I am a member of many web boards and I am only having the problem here since the last board ugrade. -

Thanks for the reply MM. I know it's not a "cookie" problem as I never delete them from my favourite sites. However, my ADSL connection via a router does get the occasional disconnection and I do not have a static IP address, so that may be why I have to login again. -

I have been getting the same since the board changed a couple of weeks ago, sometimes can stay logged in for days, but today it has not worked. I am either using the browser within AOL 9 or Internet Explorer 8 on it's own. -
thai license needed to ride motorcycle in patts?
The_Fat_Controller replied to dv34917's topic in Expat Issues
All you need to ride a motorcycle in Thailand is a frontal lobotomy, LOL ! -
Racism is alive and kicking in Thailand. This is a direct quote from the ATSIAM hotel booking webiste (corrected for spelling) for a Pattaya hotel. Remarks •All rooms are non - smoking. •The hotel does not accept customer from these countries; China, Israel, Russia and all Arab Countries. Guess the hotel !

Just booked my China Airlines flights and got the upgrade to Business Class for HALF of the usual mileage. Flight was £635 from Glasgow, and 15000 miles each way to upgrade. Not sure how long the offer lasts, but Gazelle Travel in Newcastle will know more. BTW I am not connected with this agency but have received excellent service from them other the last few years.

Air Asia now has seat selection available as of Feb 17
The_Fat_Controller replied to bigdelta's topic in Airline Discussion
I have just flown AirAsia from BKK to/from Chiang Rai and everybody now gets allocated a specific seat number. Boarding was much more sedate than in the past when everybody was rushing trying to get seated together. -
A 15 minute drive out of town, but a lovely venue and decent food. http://www.rimpa-lapin.com/index.html Went there in Nov 2008 with Thai friends. We went mid-week on a rainy evening, they had tried before at the weekend but it was full, so advisable to make a reservation at busier times.

I was there last month, still pouring concrete floors in the Areca extension, Nancy said it would be finished in the middle of next year. The back pool is not a relaxing place, quite a lot of noise from angle grinders, hammering etc. The adjacent plot is at a similar stage. All the piling work appears to be done so no really heavy thumping, well, not from the building site! I was in a pool room in the old building and was not troubled at all.

I have booked several flights from the UK with Cebu Pacific using my Nationwide Visa card with no problems at all. It is a good idea to register with Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode and set up security details.
