  1. Dr. Mick I made the trip to Khon Kean with my TGF back in Dec 2006. She said we could stay at the Sofitel. Went to check in at the Sofitel and the only room they had available was 3300bht (convention was in town) . Had a load of luggage and decided to check in and told the TGF we go look for another hotel and change tomorrow. Sofitel was very nice but, not worth the money IMO. Found the Kosa Hotel just down the road for 1000bht w/American Breakfast(ABF) and decided to reserve a room. While walking around one night, found a sign for the Charoen Thani Pricess Hotel, next to Kosa Hotel, advertising 799bht w/NO ABF. The Kosa was a nice hotel. A newer shopping mall out the front door accross the street. The ABF was not all that great. I would recommend telling them you don't want the (ABF) and get a cheaper rate. You can probably find cheaper hotels around town. But, these 3 hotels seem to be the major ones in that central location. If you are flying, most hotels have a free shuttle van or bus pickup at the airport to take you to their hotel. You'll have to pay a small fee for them to shuttle you back to the airport . Have a great trip... Vetteman
  2. Addition to my reply above. The 3 prong adaptor plug in picture above can be purchased at most electronic stores in Pattaya for about 20baht. Vetteman
  3. gator, The U.S. has 110-120V 60Hz power. Thailand has 220-240V 50Hz power. Most newer electornic equipment made for the U.S. is auto-switching and will work in Thailand. Look for the following info on the supplied (2 prong) plug-in or charger adaptor label: INPUT: AC 100-240V, 50-60Hz. If the label has INPUT: AC 110-120 60Hz, I would suggest leaving it at home or purchasing a converter as themook stated above. If you have a laptop or similar equipment (110-240V auto sensing) that has a U.S. "3 prong" plug, You will have to purchase an adaptor similar to the picture below in order to plug it into the electrical outlet in Thailand. Hope this helps and have a safe and enjoyable trip. Vetteman
  4. Stiffler, I stayed at the Eastiny Place back in Sep 02. It was fairly new and a decent place to stay. I stayed in the A-wing on the 4th floor...don't remember the room number but it was at the end of the open air hallway and on the opposite side of the pool. Even though the pool was on the 3rd flr, you had to go up to the 4th flr and walk down the steps to the pool area. There was a mini bar area on one end of the pool with some very friendly girls. You could get a good massage from one of the cuties right there at the bar with a place for you to lay down. The room was 700 or with free breakfast 750. Thought it was a cleaner place to stay than the Flipper Lodge down the soi closer to beach road. Here are a couple of pix I took will staying there. Entrance - notice the 3rd flr pool area between the wings just above the Hotel sign A-wing side with travel/internet shop B-wing side with small store and eating place Reception area The Room... Sorry I don't have any pix of the view from the room but, hope these will do. Bed was messy do to a good thrashing with a TG...hahaha Have a fun trip... Vetteman
