Personally, I like the Lodge, because you can get a room which opens right on the pool, but many people like the Inn. I would say that you can't go wrong either way. My favorite place in PTY.

I managed to get upgraded on the BKK-Taipei portion of my return flight today. (Naturally, the Taipei-LAX was overbooked.) The dynasty class seats on the Airbus A330 compare to first class elsewhere. The crew serves you quite nicely, but the food is only a slight improvement over the economy class. Your'e probably right about getting the cheap fares, rather than cash and miles, but every time I check the NW website they want $1000-1200 from LAX-BKK. I'm sitting on 24,000 NW miles (not quite enough for a domestic flight) and there's nowhere I want to go in the US, anyway. So I keep hoping NW will offer the cash and miles when I can go. (The soonest I can make another trip will be September.) I'm leaving tomorrow on China Airlines again. Boy, will I have miles with them now! That's probably the way I would do it it I was flying NW. BTW, they are offering some very low fares to Asia on a "cash and miles" deal, where you can use up to 20,000 miles and get a cheap fare. Unfortunately, they do not seem to be including BKK in the promotion. However, Manila is included, (for you AC buffs) or Singapore, where you could probably get a fairly cheap flight to BKK. Unfortunately, the dates don't work out for me, but I'm hoping they will re-offer them in the fall.

There does seem to be one drawback. Apparently their only return flight from BKK leaves at 6:00AM! (At least that's the only one I get on their website for a return to LAX) Who the hell is awake at that hour in LOS?

Thanks for all the comments. I would have stayed at the Nana excet the deluxe rooms are booked. Omni looks good, if a little more pricey. I will report my feelings when I return. Meanwhile, I have to sweat out a week before I leave!

Thanks for all the comments, guys. I bit the bullet and booked the Omni, albeit at a higher price, but included RT airport transfers and Breakfast. I like a little luxury. I know the Nana is OK, I stayed in the suite last trip, and the standard room has VERY mixed reviews, so I am a bit wary. Just how far down is the Omni. It looks to be easy walking distance, but with their maps you can never be sure. Sanuk!

Sabai Lodge has great pools (3 of them!) but the suites are a it pricey. The Pool front rooms are pretty nice, though.

I'm getting a quickie trip to BKK April 10-16. I want to stay in BKK this trip because it's short, and I would like to get to see a little more of the city. (I forgot that Songkran occurs that week, but Oh well) I have a standard room booked at the Nana (The deluxe rooms were booked) Should I go with this, or do some of you have better suggestions (Provided I can book on Short notice) Requirements: 1000-2000B or less Girl-Friendly (Of course) and close to action (but does not have to be Suk) Pool preferred but not essential Nice pleasant rooms, suite if possible Any suggestions

I got it on Orbitz, leaving April 10 E-Ticket, no extra for paper tickec. However, for departure one week later, the price was considerably higher. I have never understood how airlines arrive at their fares, because one gets very wide variations. You might try china airlines website direct. It may or may not produce a better fare. I just booked China Airlines LAX/BKK round trip for $717.00US. That's as good as it gets price-wise, without a Saturday night stayover. Thai Air wanted $2200.00 My experience with CAL is that the flights generally run on time, the people treat you nicely, and they have great looking flight attendants. Just got back from Sabai Lodge. I had the Deluxe cottage room, which open directly onto the small Dolphin Pool. Very nice. I have also stayed in the Ruen Thai Pool rooms, which open onto a larger pool, and are slightly larger. The Deluxe cottage room offers much better value for the money, in my opinion, because they offer almost the same amenities at a lower price. (I paid 1450 Baht). I just stayed at Nana Hotel. Nice suite (1500B), clean, although showing some signs of age, nice staff, very good food in the coffee shop, (the Kobe steak is great, if a little pricey at 450B, but try to get a steak that good in the US for less than 1500B.) And above all: Wall-to-wall girls all around.

Try Orbitz. I have usually gotten the best fares from them. Thai air is running a special from LAX/BKK but I don't know if it's good in July. China Airlines usually has a reasonable fare (between $600-800 from LAX or SFO). Of course, you have to deal with food that ranges from mediocre to inedible, even by airline standards. Otherwise, I have found their service good. I'm going with them next week. July isn't high season, so you should be able to find a decent fare. Good Luck.
