I understand losing or winning "face" to mean admiration or lack of in the eyes of others. However I still find it a bit murky to define sometimes. Is the concept of face all over Asia? I am visiting friends in Hong Kong next week so I'll ask them. Anyone with some good examples or a personal story? I read of one: A tourist stops a man on the streets of Pattaya and asks for directions. The man gives the tourist some assured directions and they both go on their merry ways. Then the tourist discovers that the directions lead to nothing. In other words, the man giving the directions didn't want to lose face by saying he didn't know the answer. :frustrated Is this right? Any others?

Hi TT. I stayed at BB quite awhile ago. Maybe things have changed but when I read the thread here, it doesn't seem it had. I'm a homeowner now but at one time, I was looking for a central hotel and read about BB. The best part of that street is the lovely internet cafe owner next to BB. She's the nicest human I've ever met in Thailand. I always went out of my way to steer business to her tiny shop. I hope anyone reading this will give her their patronage. Thanks for the reply and pointing out my not being clear. It's most appreciated.

Stayed at BayBreeze but never again. First of all, I don't like doing business with a ladyboy and BayBreeze has one on staff with MAJOR attitude. "Can't help now, paint on nails still wet" was an actual quote. I had problems there from day 1. My room was so shabby. Every time you must walk up soi Honey, you get hits from every hungry bar girl. At first it was fun but by the 3rd day, you just want to hit the mute button because most are sub standard. I felt it was Whoopi Goldberg clones everywhere. To make a phone call, you must go through the reception and I would give them my # and they would just hang up on me as soon as I read the last digit presumably to make the call. But then my phone wouldn't ring so I had no idea if they had tried and not succeeded or are still trying relentlessly. Obviously I would then ring the reception again and someone else would answer having no idea what I was talking about. Their lack of professionalism and shoddy service combined with their 2nd rate rooms, means I ain't setting foot in there again. Maybe it would be fun to have a little chat with the ladyboy and explain how to give better customer service, no charge. I checked out must earlier than I had planned for peace of mind elsewhere. Once you change hotels that is better, it really puts into perspective how lousy the others can be.

I am looking for a reliable English speaking agency in Pattaya. Thus far, sonnyonline.com in Naklua has been very helpful and the owners are Indian so the English is not a problem. Any suggestions? Thank you.
