  1. The airline industry is one where it nearly seems to be a stated goal to provide less and less service to the customer. At least that appears to be the case for the mere mortals flying in the cattle section of the aircraft. Having a vacant seat next to one used to be common but now it's a rarity. And not only do our waist lines expand over the years but the plane's seats are definitely shrinking in an inverse relationship. The CNN poll shows some of the things being explored to offer as a fee to the flying public. What would you pay to have available, for a "small" fee of course? http://edition.cnn.com/2014/03/25/travel/would-you-pay-to-cut-in-flight/index.html
  2. . I recently read about a site that does the tracking for you. Simply putting dates and a destination supposedly gets the site to constantly monitor airfares and send the flyer a low fare notification. Sounds good on paper at least.
  3. . When I got my RV at the Jomtiem immigration, the lady captain in the back of the room made decisions based on her preferences. Although a permanent address isn't officially required she told me she "prefers to see at least a six month lease agreement before she grants a retirement visa. Her bat, her glove, her game. I did manage to circumvent her requirements by arranging a letter from my hotel manager as I needed to leave TH. for a spell.
  4. . You're saying you basically got banned from the hotel for a perceived late check out?
  5. . Thanks Big Mick and js007, This sounds like one of the few airports where the less expensive means is also the better option. We're starting off at the Best Western and I've read quite a few reviews stating many taxi drivers don't' know how to get to it or at least how to navigate the entrance once they're near it. The drivers stationed at nearby Sentral I'd hope would surely know the route. We'll have to look into the Beach Club. Thanks for that. This will also possibly be a place where I'll be able to do some if not most of the communicating but then again maybe not. My Thai wife seemed to be able to to be understood better than me even by those who spoke English in Vietnam and she was also able to understand others pretty well. I guess my brain and hearing are evaporating at around the same pace. Cheers,
  6. We're taking Thai Airways for four out of our five flights on our trip. We initially land in Kuala Lumpur. Anything I should consider before we land at KLIA? WE'll be staying near the Sentral station and I'm thinking it's probably a lot less hair loss for me to just take a taxi rather than find the train station at the airport and then a taxi to the hotel from the train station. Our hotel is .4 kilometers from he station according the the website but naturally we'll have luggage. I read the taxi is likely to take nearly an hour while the train is usually only 28 minutes. But which is really the best option? The hotel wants 280 RM for the airport trip which I think is way too much. Any thoughts about hiring a helper to get tickets to the Petronas Towers? Getting in line at 7:00 A.M. and standing does not work so well with my herniated lower disc. Suggestions? I gather from the Petronas site that the current charge for the formerly free tickets is now 80 RM per adult. And the tickets can't be bought on line or in advance What would you recommend in KL that should not be missed? Any ideas appreciated... TIA
  7. "He stopped coming after a staff member took the man aside, telling him he could still come to funerals but could not take food home with him." just not allowed to stock up the larder any longer
  8. Better give the ladies a heads up. Have a great time.
