Was speaking to a city dealer who works in Londons financial square mile today, he succesfully trades forex for a living. He expects the Baht to keep on going from strength to strength with another 10 - 15% before the exchange rate starts to flat line. That means we could see sub 60 baht / pound exchange rate in months to come. I would expect the same pattern for the dollar and other relatively stable currencies. Anyone thinking of holidaying in the near future, say later this year would be well advised to buy their baht now as opposed to waiting until they land in BKK. Hope this helps

1200 baht is a good price to pay from the airport to Pattaya Had a bad experience October last year when the driver kept requesting to take me to his favourite jewellers on route. I politely refused 10 times or more, but not a favourable start to the holiday bearing in mind the 15 hours of travelling beforehand. At the airport the opening rate is usually 5000 baht, but the quick route to a good price is to tell them you travel here many times and always pay 1000 baht. Reading this thread with interest. It still is a really shite start to the holiday to be busted for such a petty crime, sorry for all that this has happened to. I can get my hand rolling tobacco (drum, 170 baht 50 grammes) at the chemist top of soi 3 (sukhumvit BKK) if anyone is interested and saves them from running the risk. In fact from memory ... all hand rolling brands are available in this shop.

Can i ask a daft question or am i missing the point of this thread Tobacco in Thailand is dirt cheap anyway. So what is the point of bringing duty free tobacco into Thailand and risking a fine for being over the regulations ???

Owen The UK stock markets open at approximately 2.00pm and close at 10.30pm thailand times depending on British summer time movements. Therefore beach in the morning, daytrading in the afternoon and relaxation during the late evening. Just my thoughts but from the airport go to the Nana Inn soi sam (3) at Sukhumvit Road Junction near Grace Hotel. it is a well run family hotel and costs 900 baht a night and dont mind you bringing girl back and will keep her card behind the counter for your own protection. Dear All Thank you kindly for your input and welcoming comments. I am afraid my trading pattern is approx 10 - 20 trades per month depending on how volatile the markets are, so hopefully wont be sitting all day in an internet cafe glued to a screen However, i expect i will log onto my favourite stockmarket website www.advfn.com and messenger to speak to my buddies each afternoon prior to market opening to get the latest news and react accordingly ....... so semi retirement i suppose. My first post on a fabulous website ............ gulp !!! The western life of liberal banality has been getting to me and now is the time to get the hell out and rehumanise myself. What better place than Pattaya i think. I know ..... I know ... its only make believe i hear and if you get hooked then there is no hope, especially when the money runs out !!!. However, i dont see any wrong by living in Pattaya, having a nice quiet Thai girlfriend, maybe buy a house together and trade the London Stock Market during the evening to earn a crust.
