You should consider to check the low cost airlines for a flight to Surathani (even though most only offer flights to Phulet or Hat Yai, it couls still be cheaper that way) - I found flights for less then 500 Baht one way to Phuket with Air Asia and Nokair

The regular price from Thai Airways to Surathani is 2350 Baht one way but you see flights offered from Travel Agents for 1,600 Baht.

check it out - just takes a few minutes and you may find something you like:

Other then that, like torrenova I would also recommend the train over the bus, the bus trip I took a long time ago, I will negver forget, and not becuase it was so relaxing :P

The train is more comfortable (especially in a sleeper car) and safer.

here you find a timetable for Trains to Surathani and back:

This is a picture of a 2nd claass car, in the evening the fold the seats and you can sleep:

If you really want to take the Bus, there are fares from about 500 Baht to 1000 Baht for teh VIP Busses with only 24 seats. The VIP Busses sometimes include the Ferry as well but ask. You can book a VIP Bus at many travel agencies (they leave from several locations). Or just go to teh Southern Bus Terminal (as stated by torrenova) on Boromrat Chonnani Road.

Hi shane.

If your on a budget the get a mid-day bus from pattaya to moachit bus st' in bangkok.

Then take a metered taxi from the designated taxi rank and go to koh san road in banglampu.

Go into any travel agent on koh san road and book that night's bus (and boat) to samui.

The bus departs around 7pm .... you need to be ready to leave koh san road at 6pm.

In theory you leave pattaya at noon one day and get to samui noon the next.

Not sure of the exact prices but that is your cheapest way.

Well you could get a bus from moachit to koh san rd but hey the difference is only a couple of pints in the big ship. :beer

Choc dee.

Chillum

Dont go drinking one night save yourself 60 dollars and fly. If you take the bus you will be kicking yourself in the ass. I took that bus and it sucks and last year figuring I had extra time decided to take the ferry and bus from Kho Phangan to Phuket. Was suppose to take 9 hours took 18 so be prepared.
