My first post here, me and a friend are going for our first time to Thailand and staying in Pattaya this coming March for my birthday, and he found this hotel on the web.

Is it a decent hotel? Or is it all bogus?

Thanks for any replies, March can't get here soon enough.

Edit:

I actually just realised there is a search feature for this board and found some topics on it. So I'll browse those first :eyecrazy

The Penthouse Hotel can be a lot of fun, but there are two big problems. There are a lot of bugs, and if you book one of the higher quality rooms you are likely to get downgraded when you walk in the door. I think they have been way overbooking, the woman who runs the front desk will lie about when you might get the room you have been promised. They downgraded me the last two years.

I noticed a lot of comments about the bugs. Ugh. and not getting the room you reserved?

I guess we'll have to find a different hotel. Any good (guest friendly I mean) hotels in the same area with balconys? That was one of the main reasons we were looking at the Penthouse, the dance poles and the balcony in the premier room.

But bugs and not getting the room I want would definately take it off my plan list.

The rooms with all the trimmings etc. are expensive and the chap who owns it, Dudley, is a bit of a twat. Sorry no, he is a complete twat.

I concur to overbooking and the various bugs etc. I have some customers who stay there but they stay in the cheapest rooms (not sure if they even have windows ?) but they like the location.

Whats your budget and what do you want (if you know). Maybe then we can recommend some alternatives.

My budget is a little higher than my friends and he wanted to stay in the same hotel. I wasn't looking to spend more than around 1400-1500 baht (35-37US, it's my birthday I kinda wanted to stay in a bigger room) a night and he was looking at around 1000-1200 baht (25-29US) a night by current exchange rates (which I noticed a trend that the baht is gaining in value over the US dollar, not by much, but it's steadily getting better)

I was looking for something with a balcony, near the action (though checking around it looks like thats the majorty of the town) allows smoking in the rooms, has no guest fees and has a large bed.

Thanks for the help, planning a vacation to a country you've never been to is kinda nerve racking, but I'm sure you guys went through the same thing at least at one point, right?

On a side note I love the word twat, and wish people in America would use it more.

For that kind of money, you'll be getting the cheapest penthouse room, no jacuzzi etc. Never looked at or stayed in one without a jacuzzi, but believe thry are small. What I normally do is book a regular hotel, then for a night or two near the end of the hol, I book the penthouse, Walk in and have a look at the rooms available first. I wouldn't stay longer than 2 nights tho as the rooms are too dim n gloomy, As for an alternative, u won't do better than RG through this site at 1,350

Bugs, meaning Cockroaches all over the place. I met a guy at my hotel this summer who had booked The Penthouse but moved out after 2-nights. Why? Cockroaches all over the hotel, his room, dining areas and Kittens Club.

He talked me into going in to Kittens as he wanted to see if a lady he had previously met was working. On our way in and walking past the patio dining area, he pointed out several roaches scurrying about the tables. Then, while setting at a stage bar and watching the dancers, at different times we brought to each others attention the fact of roaches scurrying about.

I don't know if this problem has been taken care of, and maybe someone will respond who has been there recently.

I can recommend Sandy Spring - stayed there last March ecellent in terms of

location

price

its very clean well kept and guest friendly only small downside is that its got very popular and can be difficult to book for certain periods but March should be no problem

Have had friends who stayed 1 night in the penthouse hotel and booked out saying the same as has been posted before bug infested dirty hole was the reply an assuie mate replied when I asked him what it was like and he is used to roughing it !

only my opinion as they say in LOS up to you

I just used a room at the Penthouse for my last day. I'm always felxible and don't book my last day in Pattaya in case I decide to do a day in BKK. That was a problem. I couldn't extend at my hotel because it was booked for Loy Ka-whatever and so was the Nana in BKK so I grabbed a room at Penthouse to crash and shortime for the day.

It brought new meaning to the word filthy and the ambiance is definitely Old Whorehouse. I really didn't like the 2 guys perched like monkeys on my balcony either. I popped out of the shower and there they were, supposedly working. I closed the drapes but the lock on the sliding glass door didn't work. Not a place I'd leave anything in the room. And it would have been nice if I'd gotten a fresh bar of soap after the last occupent. I don't even want to describe that.

They do provide a big supply of rubbers, lubricants and restraints in the room though.

Oh and I got stuck in the elevator too. The doors closed on the 1st floor and it just stayed there. I pounded on the door for a while but nobody from the desk right next to it came over. I was lucky enough to be able to pry thr doors open.

It would be good as a ST hotel with a real slut because of the slings and such but I'd never sleep there.

This is a post from another topic of dirty hotels I made.

#2 for me is the Penthouse and all its roaches. I saw a TG with a towel on, in the hallway screaming in Thai; nuu yai, nuu yai ahhhh!!! (big rat, big rat!). It came up out of the toilet when she was going to take a shower.
