  1. Yes !! I can't stand drunks. They should ban alcohol in Thailand, it's a Buddist country.
  2. Royal Twins is right across 2nd Rd from the Marriott. Walk out from the Marriott to 2nd road look up and there it is. Big tower behind a bunch of resturants. I like that location too with the RG, banks, Walking Street, Misty's and such all right there. The RG is great for quick shopping but I don't like what the did with the 3rd floor food court. I liked it better 2 years ago with a lot of variety. The food at the Royal Twins is the worst I've ever seen. I doubt even a Brit would like it All other service is top notch though. I'll do a full review later but I'm in a suite up on 13 and the view is great because the Marriot is below it so I have an unobstructed view of the beautiful brown waters of Pattaya bay from the living room balcony and Buddha Hill from the bedroom balcony. No Marriott points for staying here though. In the end Residence Garden is my favorite because of the Kitchenette and quiet breakfasts by the pool.
  3. The pool is great but not as good as the Marriott's.
  4. Shoot it.
  5. The Marriott is directly across 2nd Rd from the Marriott so if I want to I can stop in at the Marriott but I don't think the food is a really any better there. The breakfast buffet IS great but 4 times as expensive as anything else. I'm a long time Marriot fan, Gold Memeber, but in Pattaya you can find something 90 per as good for 1/2 the price or less. I've stayed at the Marriott her twice and the RG once and barely notice the difference. Actually, the RG has a nice little kitchenette and is a suite so that pretty much balance out the more luxiourious furnishings, pool and gardens at the Marriott. Damn I've gotta get a job doing travel reviews because I keep coming back to this The Marriot is a western chain that charges western prices for everything. A Thai massage is, lets see if I remeber, about 2,500B at the Marriott. Same Same massage outside at a nice clean little Thai place is 200B. I'm glad I used the Marriott on my first trip though. Got me acclimated while letting me rely on what I know is always a great chain. Some day when I'm not here I'll tell you how on my first trip I complained about a smell from the garden room next to mine, they were staining furniture in there, and got transfered to the $200 a night Seaview Terrace room with a bottle of Champagne and an offer of a comped dinner with the head of guest relations throw in but got billed only for the Garden Room. Marriot will do back flips to provide excellent service but the Gold Card status helps too.
  6. I don't remember his name. I got to him quickly last yr when I asked for him. Might not be any deals now, Take a look at my 'Emergeny Hotel' post on the members area.
  7. You get the best deals if you call the hotel directly and talk to the manager. He will give you a discount for 15 or more days.
  8. You ask questions too mutt. Search the reviews and the net. Ok, I stumbled across my bill from last year at the Marriott at this time. 3,250 B a day plus vat etc for a garden room.
  9. "Do you mean the location of the room by any chance? Otherwise, if you follow the previous poster's advice and use the other two entrances and do not pass the front desk you should be okay." There are different quality rooms. I think I paid around 3000B for a 'Garden Room'. Delux Sea View rooms are a lot more expensive. They don't just have a balcony they have a porch bigger than a garden room overlooking the sea. One night of about 25 I had to have a girl sign in. That was when I was staying in a Delux Seaview room and had to take the elevaztor up. There was a guard at the elevator. Other than that I used the front main enterance, the back enterance from Beach Road and the side enterance from the RG mall without being stopped. NEVER PAID A JOINER FEE !! even when I brought 2 back.
  10. I was never asked for a joiner fee. I booked for 2 people. I can't find my bill from last year but a lot depends on the room.
  11. I bought mine on Delta (Delta to Atlanta and ATL to Souel and BKK on Korean) two months ago but I have the tickets in my hands. I've always like Korean. Very pretty Stewardi. More likely your agant screwed up. I've flown the Delta/Korean to BKK trip twice in the past on free tickets from my frequent flyer miles and never had a problem. Seems like if they were regularly screwing somebody it would be us freebee flyers.
  12. I stayed there last November and two years before that. Booked a double and no joiner fee but some of the girls at the desk don't like mongers. They walk you to your room and ask if you're there on business...and then the smile disappears. Minor inconvenience though. Unless you go by the elevator on the south side you don't even have to have the girl leave an id. Try to skip the breakfasts there though or negotiate them out of the room price. It's really good but at western rates ($12 - 15 US). Shennanigans is right next door and you can get a great breakfast there.
  13. Your milage costs are right. I'm a Delta SkyMiles member and I just checked the program. 35K miles to Central America and 50K miles to southern South America from the US. That makes a trip to Costa Rica lot more likely for me.
  14. My concern is that Mr. Bush will have me incinerated at the airport entering the US if I display so much as a sniffle.
  15. RG isn't far. We're talking a couple of hunders yards to a side enterence to Walking Street. You'll be amazed at how close it is and how quiet it is and there are constant baht busses. I was concerned with that when I booked it but it turned out to be really convenient. I walked as often as I took a B-Bus. I never say a 'no visitirs' sign in the room and can't imagine it happening there. The suites are nice.
