Use Mobile Phone in Thailand?

Recommended Posts

I have recently joined the army of mobile phone users, and have graduated to being almost a complete idiot. In response to my query about being able to send and receive text messages, Vodaphone inform me at there is no roaming agreement with Thailand, and as a result cannot quarantee I will be able to do this.

I would be hoping to use Mobile for text messaging only, not for phone calls.

In the event that I could do this, do texts operate the same as if I were at home.

BTW have looked at some previous threads, but after a few posts I find the technology discussed way beyond my extremely limited knowledge.

Any further information would be much appreciated. :o

Growler, you posted this in the wrong section, this is for problems with the forum?

you can send free SMS with a yahoo messenger at an internet cafe, open up the IM, click on the phone icon and fire away.

I send free SMS to thailand with this instruction I got here:

OK, here it goes:

Say the number you are trying to call is 09-123-4567

First you would type a "+" then 66 9 123 4567 You need to forget about the first number which is "0"

So you would enter the number like this +6691234567

Does that make sense?

+66 for the country code, then forget the first numeral of the thai number, then the rest of the number.

Get your phone unlocked and simply buy a thai sim card if your phone can take one (GSM) you can receive SMS then, but on a different number.

ting tong,

Thanks for reply. I have been onto Vodaphone and they are in the process of showing me how to unlock the phone. Hopefully all will work out okay. I managed not to sound as stupid as I was a few days ago.

I hope that is not a yellow card you are pulling out from your top pocket.
