from the latest Thai Airlines "sawadee" April '05 inflight magazine, the new airbus A340-500 which commences BKK-New York direct this month and which I believe will be on the new direct AKL-BKK amoung others, service here are the facts of the new plane;

Royal silk class, 60 sleeper seats

Premium economy seats, 42 seats in a spacious cabin

Economy class,113 seats enjoy enhanced seating comfort

During this extra long haul flight, sit back and enjoy personal audio- visual programming in all seats that incl 30 movires, a short film and docomentary library, 30 interactive games, more than 110 music channels and airshow flight info all available on demand

I hope when they refurbish older planes, all longhaul flights get this royal treatment.

Think Singapore Airlines has 64 seats in Raffle's class and 117 in Executive Economy. Is the Thai plane bigger or just more cramped?

30 movies on demand, assuming they're free is almost as good as the 60 offered on Sing.

My itinerary for non stop AKL/BKK is on a Air Bus Industrie A340-600 .

Let us know if its on board. Even take a photo.

Im flying back on 19 June, on the old familar TG991/992 routing of AKL/SYD/BKK.

Then im looking forward to trialing out the nonstop service.

I hate the transit stop in Syd mainly because of the security you have to re-undergo but one thing i do like transitting in Sydney is they have work stations whereyou can plug your laptop into recharge so on a AKL-SYD-BKK flight you can actually watch up to 3 DVD's with the amount of battery life you get.

You can do a upgrade with thai for around 30 - 40k points/miles roundtrip. I cant recall exactly.

The Thai Air A340-500 & A340-600 aircraft will have a new livery.

A340-500 photographed @ BKK last week (8 Apr) by Bangkok Post.

Doesn’t seem too different with the exception of the Aft and tail sections.

Will post photo as time permits, but it's the same as my avatar.
