If you take your training in europe you'll be a better DM.

Agree with your assessment about better skills if trained in a Western country. Same if you want to be trained as a Dr. or accountant or engineer, etc... When I was chatting with some of the dive masters at a respected Pataya dive center they commented on how they got tongue lashed concerning some of their skills during their re-certification. And some of these guys were former Navy divers.

IMO, someone with an "anal" personality wouldn't be able to stand living in Thailand too long. Just look at all the tips given on this site concerning "plans" on your trip.

Do you want to pay more for everything and be in an anal atmosphere, or pay less and be in a more relaxed atmoshphere, either way, you will be properly trained and be able to get certified.

:D as i have stated before I dive quite often in Pattaya, I personally like Aquanauts better, as the dive masters are pretty cool to deal with , and the boat and equipment is WELL taken care of. I also Had a friend do his dive master certification with them in may '05, he was there for about 25 days , and sayshe would do it with them all over again, go talk to Gary at the soi 6 shop, tell him BIG DADDY and HAWKEYE sent you. You will not regret your choice I assure you. im aow and hes dive master, good luck in your efforts!!!!! cheers   :finger

I'm the Hawkeye from Big Daddy's post - and I have to agree. If you want an easier ride, go with Mermaids. I went with Gary at Aquanauts because I knew that once I was done, I would have the skills and training I needed. I would put his program up against any PADI DM program I've seen in America, and just judging from the European DMs I've met, my training is, at least, on the same level. It wasn't easy, but it was well worth it.

It depends were in Europe the DMs were from, I can,t comment on PADI because I was BSAC trained to second class with an instructor rating and I dived and tought in the UK for nearly 20 years.

If you learn in the UK you you can dive any were in the world with confidence.
