I have no problem with others, but I have concerns with other's problems with me or my country of origin. So I tend to see myself feeling more at home in a Budhist nation than a predominately muslim one.

Though it's been about 9 years since I lived there Malaysia is a fantastic place. I love Thai people and Thailand, but Malaysia is far cleaner, more modern, and the Malaly people are just as warm and friendly. On top of that English is the #2 language.

If you're going to either as a single man you'll have better luck in Thailand, but you can still find a partner or P4P girls in Malaysia. Their term, Matsallie, (sorry for the spelling) for westerners is highly complementary. He was a Paul Bunyan type of mythological hero. Strong, tall, and fair skinned.

The weather is far better in KL than Bangkok, but the price of beer is double (at least). I feel the food in Malaysia (and Sing) is the best in the world and about the same price as Thailand.

Stable gov't + rule of law in Malaysia makes it a place to consider. Plus if you marry a Malay you have all the rights of any permanent resident.

Good luck no matter what you decide.
