WHERE THERES A WILL!

Recommended Posts

In australia, I can get a simple will done by a solicitor for around 2,000 baht. If I cant afford this, I can get a Will form and complete it myself, sign it and get two witnesses. It is accepted by the courts. In Pattaya, I only own a motorbike, a bank account (not much in it) and some small household goods. to leave these few items to my Tg I am quoted 7-10,000 baht for a simple will!! This seems ludicrous to me? Has anyone found a cheaper alternative, please?

I was quoted B8-10 depending on complexity at expat club meeting Sunday, that included a certified English translation.

They are taking the piss. If you have only a little bit then just write your own and get it translated and then both of you sign it. Make sure you get it witnessed.

Only needs to be in english to still be legal. A certified translation should cost no more than 300 baht. Do what i did get each paragraph writen in english and thai on the same page. If you want I will dig out my will and send you a copy this was done for me by my lawyer for 3000 baht. PM me if you want it. I will off course have to block out certain information.

Give her a set of her own keys for the bike, put her on your bank account, and the household goods will go anyways...........no worries

As far as I am aware your Thai Will needs be in Thai NOT in English for it to be legal. I also underdstand that you should notify your executors of your home country will of the existance of the Thai one.

What is more scary is that in the UK over 70% of people die without making a will at all in the mistaken belief that everything passes to the spouse on death which is NOT the case.

If you are here but have property cash etc in the UK you can make a (UK) will online in a few minutes at sites like www.online-will.co.uk - costs about 25 pounds but can be printed off wherever your are.
