Banking in Thailand

Recommended Posts

Ok guys

I am used to doing certain things with Banks, and wonder if these facilites are available from Bangkok Bank

1. Standing order from account to another account with the same Bank

2. Regular transfers out of the country - covered adhoc allready but wonder if I can set this up regulalry.

3. Direct Debits for the likes of Bills etc?

Thanks

Dan

My account is with Bangkok Bank. Short answer is yes yes yes. When you open your account make sure you ask for internet banking. Go to bangkokbank.com home page and browse the site. It should show the availablility of what you want. If you want help with the nuts and bolts ask questions of the person who sets up your account. Example - I have no current account (what they call a checking account) just a savings account. They gave me a Visa debit card which I use to withdraw baht from ATM's and to order books from Amazon. Haven't tried it for anything else but I assume it would work for all the common stuff.

I have a Bangkok Bank savings account as well. My debit card worked in an ATM in Edinburgh when I tested it not long after opening the account.

One question though on sending money OUT of Thailand, are there any restrictions on this such as the funds must have originated from outwith Thailand in the first instance?

I didn't ask about internet banking when I opened my account as I only had a 30 day stamp in my passport at the time, though I now have a retirement visa.

I am amazed that Amazon does not need a CSV number as neither Bangkok Bank nor SIam Commercial cards have them (unlike credit cards).
