BKK to Auckland return

Guys, need to get from Tokyo to Auckland in early November for my dad's 70th. Was thinking of going via Thailand, as you do ...

 

Will fly ANA on leg to BKK.

 

Trouble is Thai Air is quoting around US$1,000 for the BKK/AKL return leg.

 

Anyone know any deals or a good travel agent in LOS?

 

Ideally want to fly direct but will tolerate KL or Singapore stopover if worth my while.

Doesn't sound to bad as the cheapest available fare Ban-Auck return quoted on Zuji (NZ) is NZ$1900 which is qantas changing aircraft in Syd both ways! That is the quote here in Auckland.
