Have about 35,800 Emirates Skywards miles, which I believe, after reading another thread, that can be transferred, used fo upgrades etc.

Any takers, pm or email dawson26@lycos.co.uk

Im pretty sure they cannot be transfered to another person.

You could use them for upgrades but why not just save them up for a free bkk flight. Log into skywards and see how many miles you need for your local departure. (if your scottish flag is correct then its around 78,000 for a glasgow- bkk return)

Alternatively you have plenty for a small holiday to hong kong from bangkok. (i think about 18,000 gets you a return)

Hi Vid. yeah flag is correct, but am already booked for Pattaya on 6th Oct with Thai air. Unlikely I will be able to use the miles before they expire as am already booked for Florida at the beginning of next year.

I had read in an earlier post that someone had managed to use their miles to upgrade another BM up to business class. Wondered if this was a cost effective way to use them?

Sometimes you have to use an intermediary service and suffer their conversion rate. An example:

You have Emirates miles but want Thai miles and cannot direct convert. You convert your Emirates to marriot points and then convert the Marriott points to Thai miles. Often not effective due to large spreads on the buy/sell between the three.

I'd do to the internet and read up about transferring and then get an idea of what they are worth.

Have searched the net, comments range from...cannot transfer..to there should be no problem upgrading an existing booking as a gift. Looking at the Skywards sites, you can upgrade from cattle class to Business class Glagow/LHR to Dubai, business class for 25,000 miles or 32,500 from Dubai to BKK.

An earlier post on these types of airmiles confirmed that they had succesfully allocated the upgrade to an existing booking.

Airlines Reward Opportunities

Emirates Free flights and upgrades

SriLankan Free flights and upgrades

Continental Airlines Free Flights

Japan Airlines Free Flights

Korean Air Free Flights

South African Airways Free Flights

United Airlines Free Flights

Cost to purchase these miles from Skywards at 2.5 cents per mile = £447.50

Below is direct from the Skywards website

Purchase of Miles

If you haven't earned quite enough Miles for the reward you want, you can top up your Miles total, simply by purchasing additional Miles.

Gift Miles

You can also give fellow Skywards members the ultimate gift - freedom of choice! Whether it be free travel, upgrades, cruises or any number of our leisure and lifestyle products, by giving the gift of Skywards Miles, you can help someone you care about attain the reward they've been waiting for.

Cost USD 2.5 cents per Mile

Minimum purchase 2,000 Miles

Maximum purchase 25,000 Miles in a calendar year

Please Note:

Tier miles cannot be purchased

Purchased Skywards Miles are non-refundable

Miles cannot be gifted to a member who has already purchased or been gifted 25,000 Miles in the same year

Based on the above info no problem gifting to another account, for two travelling from UK to Dubai you would need to purchase an extra 14,200 miles on top of what I have (approx £177)...but I am sure there are BMs out there who have miles available. Would be looking for £100 for the miles that I have. Any queries let me know.

Hi DawsonUK,

Are these miles still available if so I might be interested in purchasing your miles, if there is availability for upgrading on any legs of my journeys planned.

I am booked to fly out to Thailand from Manchester on 26th January returning on 13th February, also going out on 22nd March returning 9th April probably from Birmingham.

I have 56,000 miles in my account just now, not sure whether to keep saving for the free trip or go for the upgrade.

Your pricing seems very fair. Are you in the UK at present ?

Will send you a PM in the next day or two.

Best Regards

Fireman Sam

Hi Fireman Sam

Have now upgraded your flight using the airmiles. For other member, was very easy to do, once the original booking has been made just a quick call to upgrade using my miles.

Have a nice trip :D

You can definatly 100% transfer miles to another account as I transferred Skywards miles to another board member here, who wanted to upgrade to business if I recall.

I had to make one phone call to Skywards Manchester and all done.

Hi DawsonUK,

Thanks for that, checked my booking and the upgrade has been applied.

Hopefully you should receive your cheque in the next day or so, I posted it on the 1st January.
