Lottery win

Two guys win the jackpot on the lottery, and decide to go into business for themselves, problem is, what kind of business ? One has spent his life in D.I.Y. / ironmongery, the other was a pharmacist.

As these are the professions they know most about they think it should be along those lines, but which of the two to go for ? Eventually they decide to open the first ever, combined Hardware / Chemist shop.

On the opening day, they have a young lad starting as sales assistant. One of the owners says to him. " The art of salesmanship is to persuade the customer to spend more, there's a customer over in the hardware section, watch how i deal with him;

He greets the customer, who asks for a bag of grass seed.

" O.K. sir, here you go, now, how about a lawn mower ? "

" A lawnmower ! ! why would i want a lawnmower ? "

That seed is the best there is, having heard the weather forcast, i can guarantee that in a couple of days you will need it ! "

" Well thanks for the warning, i'll take one. "

The customer leaves with the seed and a new lawnmower.

Going back to the assistant, he says " See, always try to offer them something else. there's a chap in the chemist section, let me see how you get on. "

" The kid goes over and the customer who sheepishly asks for a box of Tampax."

" Certainly sir, there you go. now, how about a lawnmower. "

the owner hangs his head in disbelief at this blatent copy of his sale.

The customer says " Why on earth would i want a lawnmower ? "
