Motorcycle, compulsory Insurance...

Recommended Posts

The other 'arrested' thread reminded me of a recent incident.

My 'more comprehensive' motorcycle insurance is due, and the reminder arrived by email. It also included a quote for the compulsory, but somewhat lacking, insurance. Well it is advisable that these two are from the same supplier, to avoid claim complications. But I wondered if I would be wasting any insurance time on the compulsory, which I paid for at the vehicle registration place at the same time as I got the 'tax disc'. So I dug it out from under the motorcycle seat, where it had been for 10 months in a little plastic folder. It is like a receipt from the ATM or Tesco. I tried to look for a date on it, it is completely blank, all the ink/type has faded to nothing. A bit like the ATM printouts do. I wonder what a policeman would make of this if I was ever stopped. Check yours!

I'm sure I read somewhere (probably Thai Visa), they are dropping the need for the compulsory insurance if you have 1st class insurance already.

I am sure this applies to cars at least, maybe bikes as well? Being implemented next year I think.

A small but welcome saving (at this time), if like myself you have 1st class insurance for the car.

Best Regards

You are quite correct, I heard that too. But both my insurances become due in December and this change comes into effect, as you said, next year. So I will waste 1500 baht! Or perhaps 1st class insurance premiums will go up when they haven't got the cumpulsory below to them.

I know my renewal for the car went up substantially, despite no claims and an older car,, so I am shopping around.
