No inflation in LOS...don't you believe it.

I just got my renewal notice, and after an hour in the cardiac unit, started to ponder it.

I had to confirm that they had included the 20% no-claims I was due.

That factored in, means my premium has gone up 37.5%... an incredulous amount.

Not only that, the fire/theft/own damage to my car. sum insured, had been reduced. Well yes the truck is a year older but shouldn't that reduce my premium?

And damn it my compulsory (included at a further 967 baht) will seperately cover most of the 3rd part liability, this insurance is cover for own vehicle liability, which is reduced!

Nice letter from the company, thanking me for my kind and continued support, err no thanks.Other excuses, inflation, labour costs, spare parts, administration and service costs...yes well inflation will do!

I found a better quote through my broker, but beware, Anyone else feel AXA are trying to recover the financial crash from them?.

These are personal details that obviously depend on my vehicle type. There are trolls and lurkers about on this forum lately and I prefer to keep some privacy. The point of my post is beware Expats, car insurance is going up. People who do not live here are not affected. Edited by jacko

  • 1 month later...

I have AXA on my truck and can make the following comments.

The biggest difference to your premium is whether you have main dealer or approved repairer insurance. As anything major is likely to go to main dealer anyway and Somchai can do most small things, you can save about 30% to 40% by opting for an approved repairer.

Look at your drivers. Obviously any driver is more expensive, though I am actually not sure why in Thailand as they do not seem to discount for age or experience !

Your value is likely to affect your premium only marginally. Raising our new insurance from 80% to 90% or perhaps 95% only cost another Bt1000.

I am also with AXA and await my renewal in June. I feel they are a decent company but I will not put up with some ridiculous increase.

Good point regarding dealer or approved repairer. I used to have AXA, any driver, When the renewal came they automatically dropped the sum assured, and claimed to have included 20% no claims, and it still went up a few 1000s. I am now insured 'named drivers', 'approved repairers' with another company. I was told AXA were the first in the bunch to put up premiums, and the rest will follow. My deductable actually went down. I don't drive much, the bike suffices around town and I do 3-4 road trips per year. It didn't make sense to pay a lot.

Expect it in June. :banghead

Nicked spare wheel, let me guess, you drive a truck where the spare is winched under the bed at the back? Edited by jacko

Yes I was "apparently" supposed to have a separate lock on it although it comes with one from the factory, it now has an aftermarket lock, they paid for the damage to the old lock and bumper as well as the new alloy wheel, I had to pay for the tyre.

And.....the TGF just told me the per unit charge for electricity is due to go up January, she mentioned 3.5 baht/unit. If I recall the electric charge is on a sliding scale depending on consumption, but my average cost works out at about 2.5baht/unit not including fuel surcharge.
