Tourism Authority of Thailand's "Visit I-San Year" Campaign Hopes to Increase Tourism for Ubon Ratchathani

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - 02/24/10) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is promoting "Tourism Season in Ubon Ratchathani" in order to highlight the province's great attractions and boost sales for local hotels and tour operators. The campaign, which officially began on November 21, 2009, is part of Tourism Authority of Thailand's "Visit I-San Year" campaign and hopes to increase tourism for Ubon Ratchathani, as it develops into an important bridgehead to the Greater Mekong Subregion.

 

Ubon Ratchathani, located in Northeast Thailand or I-San, is the largest province covering approximately 9,642 square miles and divided into 25 subdistricts. This province borders the Mekong River and boasts a multitude of cultural, natural and historical attractions. Its most substantial natural resource is its forests -- with 50 national preserved forests, 2 botanical gardens, 3 national parks, 1 wildlife preservation and 1 botanical park. Along with lush vegetation, Ubon Ratchathani is also notable for its ancient Buddhist temples and monks.

 

The weather during winter provides the most optimal weather conditions for tourists in Northeast Thailand since the temperature is enjoyable, not hot, and they can enjoy the beautiful natural and historical attractions. As a bonus, the flowers are in bloom and there are many festivals and events taking place this time of year.

 

I-San is evolving into a major part of the Asian Highway, as well as the North-South Economic Corridor and East-West Economic Corridor, a vast network of highways that will link the South China Sea with the Bay of Bengal and Singapore with Kunming. After completion, these highways will make a huge impact on vehicle access throughout the Greater Mekong Subregion and use of Asia's existing highways will be maximized. Low-cost airlines are already providing strong connectivity between cities in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, and the Yunnan Province of China, making it more appealing for tourists to visit.
