I must compliment England

Recommended Posts

I was at the opening game at Wembley in 1966. It was one of the most boring 0-0 games I have ever seen. It was a Vic's classic football match.

All this speculation about how bad England played, was banded about then, as it is now. I don't recall us ever having a good first game, in any tournament- World or European Cup.

Heskey, Wright Phillips and Lampard should have all done better last night and I am sure they will in the following games.

O.K. all queue up to take the piss, we are used to it by now- water off a ducks back !

Just think of that game as- 1 goal to England and 1 mistake to the USA. :nod

Oh, and for the Sweaties- Taffies and Paddies- You've got to be in it- to win it !

Where are all the flags hanging from the pubs, houses, cars, down your way ? :allright :D

" I'm England 'till i die, I'm England 'till i die.......... " :bow

When will anybody in UK realize that Lampard and Captain #3 can't play together? It's sad because they both play the same role and they are 2 of my favorites. But Lampard did play farther back and Gerrard more forward-maybe they will switch next game.

Relevant to whom, Khun Tom?

It might be important for the US to move on from the first stage if they stumble later or even win the group (and you mentioned the relevance of a first vs second relative to facing Germany and potentialy moving on to the knockouts).

Either way, one could argue that the result is relevant for promoting soccer in the US and also showing the gap between US and european teams has been reduced.

I watched the game and wouldn't call the result a "shocker", regardless of Green's error.

Prestwick Tom is still sore he didn't collect his 8-1 wager because US shot off post in closing minutes-much to UK's relief.

That's not very good English. Anyway, it evened out at 15/2.

Any predictions for the Azzuri? I'll go for 2-1 to Paraguay.

Gee,didn't I post last week that Joe Hart should start ahead of Ronald McDonald (Calamity James) and that other Green fellow..........?

And to think our #2 GK was the star.

Too bad you can't find some UK heritage for Brad Friedel, our #1.

Actually, Friedel and Keller are probably both still better then Howard, even though they are long retired from international competion and in the twilight of their careers. That would make our #3 GK the star. So who is it going to be in game 2, Hart or James?i
