Delta 60/k ticket

Recommended Posts

Well, after shedding my tears across the boards about Delta's mileage program. Here is what happened.

I have been calling Delta to get an award ticket for 60/k to LOS.. Tried on line many times and it sucks..

I finally bought a cheap Korean ticket on MSN. Yesterday I found out I didn't get any Delta miles because it was a discount ticket. Zero.. Didn't even realize it when I booked.. I also bought the trip insurance and I'm pretty sure I can get out of it..

So today I decided to call Delta again. This time I got a guy that actually wanted to help me instead of the attitude

I was usually getting.. I always asked to put me on another partner and this time I said China Air.. and he started searching..

It was a long call... So.. Sea/LAX/Bkk on China Air Bkk/LAX on China Southwest and I bought a cheap Alaska

ticket home for $125 from LAX.. cost me 60/k miles.. plus taxes.

I have not flown China Southwest so I have my fingers crossed..

OK… China Southern, Oh boy.. I did it.. The flight from BKK to China was un eventful, except for a chicken and rice dish was Thai spicy hot. But no worries its leaving Thailand and expected.. The China to LAX flight, we changed gates and were bussed to the plane which was strange. Later I assumed they were working on a problem. We sat on the plane for 2 hours before take off. In flight I talked to one of the stews and said I would not make my connections. Before landing they moved me up to the business class. Running to immigration in LAX and waiting for my luggage I missed my connecting flight. Several of us tracked down the China Southwest agent and they tried to arrange flights for us, then walked us up to ticketing. At ticketing I was told they could not help me except for a hotel for the night. They said my transfer ticket was on another carrier and they couldn’t help me.. BS.. I had to track down a manager at China Southwest for help to find another flight home. I wasn’t about to pay more for a ticket when there plane was 2 hours late. Two hours later they got me a new ticket for my connecting flight the next morning and a hotel for the night. I was told my dinner would be paid for but the hotel restaurant was closed.

As for the on board services on the China Southern 777. Most people sleep for 12 hour flights. I can not and usually catch up on a movie or two. The in seat entertainment did not work. Period. I didn’t see anyone watching a screen. I tried to listen and the sound quality was very poor, even the Chinese movies. The only movie in English was a cartoon movie on a continuous loop. I started to watching a Nicholas Cage movie in English and it stopped about 5 minutes into it and went to cartoons. All the movies seem to be in a continuous loop. The controls for the movies & music entertainment were on the inside of the seat and it could not be remove. It was part of the inside of the seat. Usually these can be removed with an attached cord. Not on this plane.

Ok we all know about airline food. This was the worse I have had on any airline.

The stews seems to lack training in how to position the carts when serving food and picking up trays.

I would expect them to have accidents and spill on passengers.

Overall the airline gets the job done but everyone seems to lack the training were used to in an airlines industry.

Very poor airline even on a free ticket..

I have about 180K miles left in my Delta FF balance and they do me almost no good anymore, at least for trips to LOS. There are NO upgradeable tickets available anymore between LAX or SFO and BKK, and getting a free ticket now costs 2x the miles it did just 5 or 6 years ago. I usually go on China Airlines because I get Delta miles that way, but I buy the ticket from CI directly and give them my FF # at check-in because it's a lot cheaper than buying the same CI ticket from Delta. Korean Air is one of their partners, too, but their air fares have become enormously expensive.

Why couldn't I have been born rich instead of handsome and charming?

I was lucky to get this ticket at 60/k and the outbounnd was on China. I too have 100+/k miles w/Delta. I did find something interesting on the Delta site. If you check the flexable travel date box in award travel, your search

will take you to a calander of dates to travel and the mileage required. I was suprised to find what days had lower

mileage award seats. I think the new award chart is 80/k to Los. I miss the NWA days.

Thanks for the review, sounds like too much trouble for the savings.

Where transfers are involved with another carrier just too likely to go wrong.

You certainly can get a ticket with this.

Do NOT bother with dl.com, it might work once in a century on TPAC flights.

Just call in and ask for PARTNER awards. Have them look at CI, MH and VN. Also check KE, but they should do that anyway as they are part of Sky Team.

If the rep does not sound like they have the concept, call back later. Some are very good, some have no clue.

BTW, flyertalk.com is the place to discuss this type stuff.
