Fujika Water Purifier

Recommended Posts

Just purchased and installed a water purifier that requires mains power to operate the UV light.

Can anyone tell me if i have to keep it plugged in 24hrs or only as and when i use it?

Didnt know if you are suppose to keep it plugged in all the time to keep the water clean.

Many Thanks

Likely it will be okay to unplug it. The UV lamp kills most things and if you don't have any water flowing through it there is nothing to kill. Do not use the first small amount of water when you plug it in and open it... as this may be untreated. There will also be a danger you forget to plug it in and drink the water.......absent-mindedly. I am also unsure if the bulb has a warm-up time. Edited by jacko

Thanks Jacko.

I drank from it yesterday before my mrs read the instructions which said run the water for 10 mins before the first time.No ill effects though.

The reason i asked the question was because yesterday i left it plugged in for a few hours without using it and when i ran the water it had steam coming off it as it was sat under the lamp without moving. You are right what you said about turning off.

Thanks Again.

From what I know the UV kills 'sterilizes' bacteria etc quickly as it passes over the lamp.... or within close proximity of it, and it is not a slow cooking thing.

The instruction to run water through it is just an initial flushing.

I am surprised there isn't an on/off flow switch or switch on the unit itself to power off the lamp when 'not in use'!

  • 2 months later...

Just taken one of the filters out to clean it,as it recommends in the buyers manual and realised the filter is wrapped in plastic as it would be when new.So i undid the other 2 filters and they are the same.So i take it that the water hasnt been filtering through these filters since i bought it and i have been drinking dirty water for 3 months.

As i cannot see inside i wouldnt have known i was supposed to unpack them when i first bought it and the woman in the shop never said anything.I just assumed you connected the water and you were good to go.Not having to unpack each filter aswell that is already in the purifier.Am i missing something or being stupid.Has anyone else got one,who can let me know whats right or wrong.

Apparently the dirty water wasn't so bad :P

I am perplexed how any water could get through the plastic. :clueless

Me too.Maybe the filters werent in place properly as the O ring that goes between the filter and purifier was wrapped up in the plastic wrapping.Think the water was sort of bypassing it.The water is coming out twice as fast now.

Just had a row with my wife about it as i asked her when i bought it if it was o.k to use straight away or i had to do anything to it.I asked her this in the shop with the assistant there and my wife said go ahead and use it.When i just questioned her she said it was my fault and i should have checked. She thought i already knew that about the filters being wrapped.

Whatever happens its always my fault according to her.She would rather just say she has asked someone something, even if she hasnt ,just to keep me quiet and save her any hassle.

Very typical, it could never be a Thai's fault for doing something stupid now could it?

As for shop assistants knowing anything, well give that idea up for a start. Spend all day hiding in alcoves playing on their mobile!

When I break my neck, falling over the cleaning bucket left on the doorstep, again, it will be my fault too!

(I guess the UV part of your water purifier did the trick as everyone survived).
