3BB Internet in Pattaya - anyone having problems lately?

Recommended Posts

I've been having problems with my 3BB connection sporadically for a couple of weeks. One day it is solid, then for several hours, it starts dropping the connection for 2-5 minutes. Then it connects again, and 10 minutes later, it drops.

Tonight, it's pretty much down solid. I'm not sure if it's a local South Pattaya issue, a central office issue, or a local issue to my connection. 3BB call center is not responding (wait for next available support person), so either they are understaffed or they are really busy.

So, anyone have any relevant 3BB reports? What's going on with your area?

Sounds like a local issue - working fine for me.

Staffing at the Call Centre is probably down because of the Public Holiday today - normally they're pretty good (in my experience).

I had had exactly the same problems you describe on and off since I moved into a condo in Jomtien in Feb. But after a week-long trip to the U.S., the connection has been solid and nearly twice the speed as before. I don't know what happened, but it is a definite improvement.

Yes they had a localised problem - 'twas enough for me I'm now with someone else, much better speed and less than I was paying 3BB, hard to complain about that.

(the technicians apparently tried to fix something and to say it went wrong would be a gross understatement - why dont you ask them? I had no problems getting through to them)

And now, a day later, it seems to be working most of the time. It's dropped the link once that I know of, but only briefly.

Something is not right with 3BB. It just appears unreliable of late.

Their marketing department has been working overtime selling new accounts and adding new users. I know very slow from 18:00-22:00. We subscribe to the limited user plan from 3BB at GS. Hopefully, getting more bandwidth. I do see the speed difference between basic package and limited user package.

It's starting to happen again today...right around 18:00 as you say.

If anyone can analyze line conditions (SNR, Attenuation, and Power), here is a screenshot from my router status...is it sick?

I also subscribe to the 12M package (1490THB) and typically get no more than 6M. The 6M package is only 590THB.

I wonder if I choose 6M if I'll still get 6M speed (as I do now)? I'm just thinking that they are selling based on description rather than service...sort of like Beer bar girls want 1000 LT and Gogo girls want 2000-3000LT. It's the same service in many cases, but just costs more.

What a wonderful analogy...... It could only ever be made in Thailand........ Love it...........

You are paying for 12M/1M and the router is showing a max of 7/0,5.

Your SNR margin is pretty low at 6.6 / 5.6...mine is 19/19 db,

I really don't know enough to be sure but it looks like your line is rather poor.... is this your home or the bar?

If the bar it would not surprise me... wet lines with a lot of neon lights nearby.

You need to go to the office and have a bitching session... I send the TGF, she is a Tasmanian devil in a frock.

Thanks, jacko. Your post motivated me to get on the line with 3BB. I called them last night, and their engineer showed up this morning...he checked inside the condo, then said the problem was outside. Luckily our building engineer was around, and they found something...broken/damaged wire or connector. They came back to the room 15 minutes later, and here is what the router status shows now :P

Speedtest results are now about double what they used to be...it appears there was a problem since installation, and it got so bad that I noticed something was amiss (dropping connections).

Here is the result to a Bangkok server...
