Hi all,

I am heading to pattaya in a few months, and a bit sceptical about carrying cash.

I went and got a National Australia Bank Travel card which I load with Baht, Great card, no fees etc, all good.

My problem is, That it is MASTERCARD, not VISA, so before i start pumping money onto it, I want to make sure that there are plenty of ATM's in Pattaya especially around LK Metro, where MASTERCARD is accepted.

Yes there are, but I believe there is a 180 baht charge each time you use it.

You can always walk into a bank and get a cash advance on your MasterCard... and since yours is already loaded up and no fees...that's a good option too. I don't use those free standing ATM's on Soi B...as I had a card eaten at the top of LK Metro in one of those.

I would ask the cc company for a second card. I would leave this card in the room safe. I only use ATM attached to a bank. I had one machine eat my card. The bank opened the machine and gave me my card. All this took about ten minutes.

Agreed. Same same and Sods Law is that the only time you violate this the card gets eaten.

I always use a combination of cash and Mastercard. You will find that you will get a better exchange rate for cash. I have also used a Travelex Cash Passport card from the Australia Post office, like a prepaid debit card, which you can set up with Bpay from your Ausie bank account. Comes with 2 cards so you can keep one in the safe. But short for short trips cash is King.

When are you going? It's Sept for me.
