Hi all,

First of, great job Pete!!!

I must thank all of you who have been so forthcoming and helpful in providing your thoughts and insight on accomodations, in specific, and general living and partying in Pattaya, in general.  I have been a member of this site for a while now, although a very quiet one sitting back and lurking.  I was only in Pattaya once a couple of years ago, and it was for only 2 days with a tour group which had the days and evenings filled with sleepy tour type events.  However, I was lucky enough to sneak away an hit Walking Street to check things out.  Needless to say, I was hooked :)

I'm thinking I'll head back to Pattaya and this time go about it the right way.  That is no tour groups or tight schedules.  Instead, I think I'll take a month (Nov. - Dec.) and enjoy the city.  Thus, Pete better be prepared for one crazy Canadian to be frequenting his fine establishment.

Ok, enough mumble jumble.... on to the issue that brings me to this posting.  After combing through the many reviews and comments on the different places to stay, I have short-listed the Residential Gardens, ViewTalay, and Flipperlodge.  I've read a lot about RG and FL on the boards, but not much on ViewTalay. Has anyone stayed there and have any comments on whether it is a good choice?  Right now, I am leaning towards the Residential Gardens for my 1 month stay this Winter.  The other two options seem to be less expensive, however, is it a situation of you get what you pay for?

Many thanks again to all of you!  And, I look forward to putting back many a beer with many of you in a couple of months!

View Talay is in Jomtien.  A hassle to get to and from the shopping and action in Pattaya.  Residence Garden has a good reputation, but for a new guy wanting to get his feet wet, as well as other things, I would suggest the Flipper Lodge on Soi 8 or the Flipper House on Soi 7.  RG is probably better for those who already know where things are and are looking for more comfort.

Personally, I like the Sabai Lodge on Soi 2 and it is near the Big C, the soapies, many beer bars, and is an easy baht taxi ride to Mike Shopping Mall, Royal Garden Plaza, and Walking Street.  And the hotel is very quiet with a great pool and a friendly staff.

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes.  So come on! Your adventure begins!     Roy

Great!  Thanks so much for your advice Roy!  I've sent off a couple emails (FL and Sabai Lodge) to enquire about their availability.  Checked out their websites and they look great.  I'll hold off on the RG till my next stay, which no doubt will be soon enough :)

Thanks again,

CG

I have to agree with laffnliv, I've stayed at both hotels and I like the Flipper Lodge because they have a great in room massage ;D ;D. I paid 300 for the massage and 500 to the girl for full service last August. Only 13 more days untill show time. ;D ;D ;D

I'll definately look you up Roy when in Pattaya!  Will figure out my schedule in the next couple of weeks.

Charlie:  I emailed Flipper lodge and Sabai Lodge two days ago and heard back the next day from both.  However, do not expect detailed or precise answers to any enquiries that are beyond room availability and price.  I think the respondent had a limited understanding of English.  I'm still trying to figure out if the reply means that I will be able to safely store my laptop in an electronic safe in the room at Sabai Lodge.

You might want to send out a second email, just in case the previous ones got lost.

All the best,

CG

Hi CG

Thanks for your reply. I was just asking about rates so pretty simple stuff.  I'll try yet again!

We're in town 6 October through 12/13 - hope I haven't left it too late to get booked in.  Sounds like a good hotel; I'm leery of booking anything more upmarket in case the guest policy proves a no no.

Best

Charlie

Thanks for your reply. I'm bringing along an older guy who wants the best accom. possible without guest hassles - his first time in LOS, my first in Pattaya for 14 years.  Figured Sabai would be OK but no in room safes ;) Is the Sabai Inn 'better' than the Lodge?

Charlie, the Sabai Inn is newer than the Lodge, and costs about 100 B a day more.  If you are in the Inn you use the pool at the Lodge....no big deal.  And both hotels share the same restaurant, the Sala Thai.

You might want to try an e-mail again, only this time address it to "Khun Care."  Care is the manager lady.  She is very efficient and a nice person.  She and the staff have treated me extremely well.    Roy

Hi Roy,

I finally figured out my timing in Asia, and it looks like I'll be staying in Pattaya from Dec. 1 to Dec. 11.  Looks like that 1 month stay will have to wait till next summer.  I am just about to send off an email to Sabai Lodge to book the room.  Would you recommend going for the Superior room overlooking the pool?  Or, is there not much difference between that and the standard room?  Also, do you happen to know if they have an electronic safe in the room that will hold a laptop?

Thanks a bunch!!

JP

The standard rooms are just fine.  I prefer the Superior room only because I stay there for two months at a time and feel the smaller room might feel even smaller as time passes.  If you opt for the Superior room, request one on the first level.  It's more convenient and saves you having to negotiate stairs late at night.  Also, the Superior rooms have huge tiled shower stalls...large enough for three to party in.

The safety boxes are behind the desk in the lobby.  Frankly, I don't know any hotel that offers one of those electronic safety boxes that would be large enough for your laptop.  Why bring it?  There are internet shops everywhere in Pattaya....two of them on Soi 2. Just extra baggage to lug around, and worry about.  If you bring it, just lock in in your luggage.  Should not be a problem.

Sorry we will not be able to meet up since you get there in Dec., and I leave about Nov. 22.         Roy

My quote for the beginning of Dec. was 880 bht for the seaview, so your price sounds pretty good to me.  However, perhaps someone who has logged some time their in Oct. can offer you better insight.

Hiya Roy,

The laptop issue was somewhat a concern as I am not just going to Pattaya when in Asia, but rather will be in China and then Bangkok for 3 weeks prior to Pattaya, and then another week after Pattaya for business.  Thus, I'll be dragging the laptop along with me.  However, I can just leave it back in China when heading to Thailand and pick it up on the way back :)  Like I would actually get time to do some work there with all that candy around!  Thanks for the note about the large showers in the superior room...  fitting 3 or 4 in a shower is an important point to consider :)

Sorry our times will not match-up ;)  I just re-confirmed that I'll be there from Dec. 1-11.  Perhaps next time my timing will be better.

Best regards and thanks again,

JP
