Moby,

I checked this out with China Airlines today as the seat sizes (32"-34" pitch) didn't seem to make a lot of sense.

What is happening is that full fare business pax will be seated in what is currently first class and upperclass will be seated in what is Dynasty Class (first class will be discontinued) - the seat configuration is not changing i.e. upstairs will still only be 32 seats with the best seats in Row 10.

In Upper Class the meal service will be economy standard food, there will only be 20 kgs baggage allowance, check-in will be with economy class pax and there will be no access to the lounges in AMS or BKK.

They reckon prices for this service will be with the agents by the beginning or middle of next week.  It will be interesting to see if they pitch them at the same level as EVA's Evergreen Deluxe service which now seems to get in LHR 30 minutes later than previously; meaning an overnight in London on the return for most, if not all, guys flying from the regions.

Regards,

Tom

Flew China Air once...never again....departed HNL late, departed TPE late, departed Japan late and therefore, arrived in BKK LATE (about 2 1/2 hours late).  Plus being in the TPE airport for 5 or 6 hours listening to the LOUD overhead speakers making constant announcements in Chinese.

Only good thing was they had about twice the number of flight attendants as JAL/United/N'West.

My airline of choice is JAL...Only one stop at Narita or Kansai and they have recently established a flight that arrives at 2015 BKK time (instead of the normal 2345).  This is from HNL.  The other good thing with this new flight is the layover is about 1 1/2 hours insted of 4-5 hours.

Wish that Thai Air flew to Hawaii...but alas...they don't.  It gets kinda frustrating to see airline prices from west coast to BKK cheaper than from Hawaii.

I flew with China Airlines some years ago. First aeroplane that I saw with the SkyMap. Good service, though a little cramped.

I would consider flying on their Upper Class from London, if the price was right.

Hi Tom,

As you know I've just returned  :'( and I was very happy with the flights and the seats/service.

if it now means that they pitch the price at around £650 I will be a very happy bunny ;D

It would not kill me to lose the lounge Ams/Bkk tho' the baggage drop to 20 kg might hurt as I take the golf clubs !

Thanks again for the advice on the seat #'s

If you do find out the price range it might prove helpful to some of us who hate cattle class

Be nice
