FLIGHTS TO LOS - IMPENDING WAR ?

I beginning to wonder if my planned trip in May will be disrupted by the probable war  ???

Particularly as I am booked on Emirates Manchester > Dubai >Bangkok.  Anyone know what happened during the last Gulf Conflict ?.

Also will Cobra Gold happen this year ?

I did MAN-DXB-BKK on Emirates at the time of Desert Storm and there was no indication that anything was afoot, all went smoothly.

Regards Cobra Gold, I' d put my shirt on it being postponed this year.  I don't think Hans Blix report today will make a blind bit of difference to the plans.

The last conflict was done and dusted by the end of February.  By the beginning of May it is getting too hot to fight land battles in the daytime so I would imagine the plan is that the impending foray will be short and sweet.

I am still planning to travel to LOS in April.

I feel everything will be alright.

 

Sure airport security will be tight, but Thailand will probably be a safe place to "ride out the storm"

 

I feel fine leaving Hawaii and with layovers in Japan and Taiwan.

 

I can't think of a better place than to watch CNN and see all the bombs drop on Iraq while drinking a cold beer and having a nice Thai cutie wipe the sweat off your brow with a cold towel.

There were a fair number of US Marines on my flight from Japan. They told me they were the advance party for Cobra Gold. I arrived 17 February.

Do any of you guys know the approximate dates for Cobra Gold? A friend and I were hoping to be there in May.

advance party usually arrives around 20 - 25 April and Main body around 5 - 10 May and will stay until end of May.  Few stragglers will be around til about the 10th of June.

My flight is with Emirates, Manchester - Dubai - Bangkok on (guess when?) 17 March! I rang Emirates today and asked them what the situation is and what about the flight if/when war starts. The response was that the flightpath was hundreds of miles from any likely action and there would be no problem with the flight.

I must say I still have some doubts, though they did say that flights continued during the last Gulf War. I have 2 worries - one that I could lose my £474 paid for the flight if it's cancelled, and two - that there might be flights back home if it's not!
