Changing Departure Date

Recommended Posts

I have bought an economy return ticket on Emirates giving me stay in LOS of 3 weeks. Maybe I will want to stay longer - it will depend on how I feel and also my commitments back in the U.K

Have any members got experience in changing a depature date ?. I spoke to one guy last year who said he had done this at JK travel on Soi 8 for a small fee.

Depends on which class your ticket is. Most tickets are changable for a fee, but most likely not if your  ticket is part of of a special offer from the airline.

Normal fee to the airline is 100 euro / usd and then the fee to the agent is on top of that.

Most likely every travel agent with a phone can change your ticket. you can also do this yourself.

Dave,

As Mats said it is generally not a problem to change your return after you have completed the outbound travel.  The cost is dependant on the class of ticket (Emirates will charge £25-£50).  The ability to change is mostly restricted by the availability of seats in the same class (i.e. price bracket) as the ticket you already hold.  If there is no availability in this class you may be charged the difference up to the next higher price class.  Don't confuse class with economy and business - it means whether your ticket is valid 3, 6 or 12 months and other restrictions.

Again, as Mats said, there is no real reason to use a travel agent to make the change.  You can do it yourself, or through your hotel, by calling Emirates BKK reservations once you are in LOS.

Regards,

Tom

Thanks Mats & Tom.

Just out of interest I asked my travel agent what it would cost to extend my stay by a week. They replied that this could be done for a fee of £75.00. This seems a bit high.

I have obtained the Emirates  address and telephone number in Bangkok, from their web-site so I can try and arrange a change when in LOS if that is what I want to do. Perhaps the impending war will mess up all our plans !.

Someone else has told me that he once did this with a world traveller BA ticket to the U.S.A. - over the phone they mentioned a fee payable on departure at the airport, but this was never requested at check-in.

Daveuk,

£75 is the correct charge for changing your ticket prior to departure with Emirates - at least in the cheapest ticket class.  The more expensive the ticket, the fewer restrictions and charges.

Tom
