Singapore Airlines ex Manchester to Bangkok

Recommended Posts

Singapore Airlines commences non-stop services from Manchester to Singapore in early April with connections to/from Bangkok.  They will utilise a Boeing 777-200ER on this route with a 3-3-3 seat configuration in economy (Emirates operates a 3-4-3 configuration on its 777 aircraft).  Flights are daily with non-stop services operating Mo We Fr Su from Manchester and Tu Th Sa Su ex Singapore on the return legs; on all other days a transit stop is made in Brussels(?).  Transit time to connect to/from the Bangkok flight in Singapore Changi is as little as 90 mins.  I would assume that because both legs of the trip are on the same airline that boarding passes for both legs can be issued at the original check-in thereby saving the need to use transfer desks in Changi.

The good news (other than the hot stewardesses) is that the flights are currently retailing at £464 incl tax through Airline Network (probably similar prices through the other main operators) with pretty good availability showing.  Seems a pretty good option if you are fortunate enough to live up north and don't fancy the trip via LHR or one of the European hubs.

Hope this is of some use to someone out there.

Regards,

Tom

Do they offer frequent flyer miles on these flights at this price level? In the US no miles given.

BigDUSA,

Most booking classes ex UK offer airmiles except for certain group tickets and codeshares - even Thai are an exception to this rule although their site and literature says otherwise.

Air miles in Europe do not carry the same importance as the US, particularly since the emergence of the budget airlines (Ryanair, Go, Easyjet etc).  I think most Brits are pretty cynical of customer loyalty schemes in any case and we don't have the same opportunities for flying with one airline or group of airlines as you do in the US.  I think we tend to view airmiles as a bonus which may, or may not, come in useful at some point, rather than the overriding reason to choose one airline over another.  I read a recent report that the number of accumulated airmiles make it the world's second largest currency behind the US dollar and that several airlines would go bust if they were all cashed in concurrently.  I must admit to scratching my head ??? at many of the US posts in this section and reading the importance of airmiles to you guys (and the seemingly endless permutations they throw up).  They appear to make our choices somewhat straightforward in comparison.

Enjoy your forthcoming trip - maybe you could suggest that your Eden aluminium thingy joins airmiles and issues them on the basis of repeat visits! ;)  You know the sort of thing - 3 ST qualifies you for an upgrade to LT on your next visit; 3 LT qualifies you for one free ST (on a standby basis, of course).:o

Regards,

Tom

A bit of further info.  The above flights can be booked with ebookers for £445.60 incl tax.  The validity is 90 days with outbound travel commencing between 19 Apr and 20 Jun.  Bookings are in "Q" class so, as BigDUSA pointed out, - no air miles. :-/

With United I get double miles, r/t is 20k so I get 40k. I pay for 2 trips and the 3rd one is free. I usally can get a flight from Philadelphia, PA to BKK for a little less the $800USD. I pay $1600 for 3 trips, divide by 3 come out to $533. r/t. ;D ;D ;D   14 days

Pattayaman,

It seems a lot of the operators are fighting to attract the northern-based guys.  Emirates, Austrian, Lufthansa and Air France (as well as China Airlines) all have deals at the moment which make travel through LHR a bit of an expensive option.  Even Swiss still has the cheapie option where you can actually choose to travel from Zurich on the Thai codeshare.  Cheap flights and cheap mortgages ...... life can't be all that bad up north! :o

patk100,

There has been a lot posted on Qatar over the last few months.  Use the search function to look up the relevant posts.

They do advertise some fares that seem too good to be true.  Unfortunately, most of them are.
