Installing RAM

 Hey guys, having a problem installing ram into a laptop. I have been trying to add 256 chip. My laptop is upgradable to 512 total. The first chip caused the computer to freeze and lock up about every 30 minutes to 2 hours. I took it back and exchanged it and again the same thing is happening. Any ideas?? TIA. Cheers, B-Man!

Several possible explanations

1) wrong type of memory

2) You put it in wrong

3) bad ram socket

4) bios issue

5) heat

6) Bad quality memory

 

Suggestions

1) make sure you have good quality memory.

computer stores dont necessarily sell you good stuff,

a site like crucial.com will.

2) Make sure your bios is fully updated

3) make sure your memory is not running too fast.

Some memory wont run at what is called CL-2 but will instead only run at CL-3

7) Sometimes memory must match ie. same size and /or speed etc. in each socket.
