The legal process of getting married is pretty simple. You go to an amphur's office and sign papers. However, you should get in touch with the embassy and ask what will be necessary to have the marriage recognized by the UK. If it is anythign like the U.S. process you will have to have documents translated and jump through a few other hoops.

Good luck and best wishes,

I tied the knot on the 21st April....here goes.....:-

First as a British Citizen you have to do an Affirmation to Marry and take it to the British Embassy to get it stamped by them and confirmed. This takes overnight and you have to return to the Embassy after 09:00am the next morning and get it translated into Thai.

Then its too the other side of Bangkok to the foreign Affairs Department to get the stamp authenticated by them. this can take up to about 5 hours as it is very busy with all nationalities in there.

After this it is to the amphur to get the marriage registered....You can go to the amphur in Bangkok or Pattaya......they give you your marriage certificates and walllllllaaaaaaaaa your married.....

I then took the missus her home town of Kalasin to get her ID Card changed to my surname and family book.....!!!

I used a english bloke who is married to a thai woman in Pattaya and have a travel and marriage business there. The name is NPK Travel in Soi Pattayaland 1.....there names are John and Yai.........they take you up there and do it all for you while you just sit back and relax whilst John buys you lunch and drinks......We stayed the night in Bangkok as the Embassy does not do Affirmations the same day any more it's overnight.

Give them a ring or email.........superb service..........I can't praise them enough......Yai-the lady has a lot of connections in the embassy and other government offices and you are quickly through it all.

Cost is 15,000 baht.........sounds alot but do it on your own at your peril..........believe me they are very good.......and a nice couple.
